I did aim to get all the towers to open up the whole map as one of my first activities but shrines and such I find on the way I try and clear them as I find them rather than save them up.

Did the first beast of my replay (Naboris) used a guide to find all the terminals to get through this bit quickly as it was taking me too long to try and work it out. Might take a break from it now and go play something else for a bit and come back to it again and pick up where I left off

Its probably been discussed before somewhere in the bowels of this thread but I would be fascinated to know everyones playtime - I beat Ganon at 70 hours but I've now put in over 90 hours

Also how many of us (apart from Milner) have started a second playthrough. As much as I love every couple of months picking this game up post completion and just hanging out - right now I don't have much motivation to delete my current game and start from scratch.

200+ hours on the Wii U, and currently over 100 hours in to a second play on the switch. I can see me hitting 250+ on a second play too as it's even better the second time around, plus there's all the little extra things to do.

IIRC, ~120 hours on Switch for a solitary finish, completing all side quests.

You guys chatting about re-visiting the game has made me think about this. I've played twice before but have only got up to Kakariko Village each time; which isn't too far, I believe. I'll put this on my playlist for Switch.

Create a new user on Switch and use that for a second playthrough, then you don't have to delete your main save :)

Is there any particular reason that some Nintendo games are single-save this gen? Odyssey is the same IIRC.

Yeah, the "one save slot" approach is pretty frustrating. I don't quite get it, especially as the game saves are stored on the console rather than the game card.

But, hey, this got me to load up the game and take a look so that's a step closer to a new adventure.

So yeah, I think I am done with this now, it’s still a great game of course but I still think the open world has a lot of areas where there’s not much actually there. I hope with the sequel, seeing as they are keeping the same world, they make it a lot more dense with population and hidden areas.

Maybe before the sequel I’ll pick up from where this 2nd play through save left off but for now I have had my fill and scratched that itch.

I wasn't aware you could do that - thanks thats a game changer.

I'm going to start a new game sometime, now I know I don't need to nuke my old game :D

So from the trailler for the sequel it looks its the same Hyrule overworld as the first game (plus the sky parts and possibly underground bits). I'm sure I'm going to love it but as my favourite bits of the first game were the free roaming traversal and exploration and discovery as the world unfolded. I've got a little bit of a feeling this is going to be a little bit like what Miles Morales was to the first Spiderman game - like a really great DLC that won't give me the same sense of ore. Which is a tiny bit disappointing - Majoras Mask was cool as it used the same engine etc as Orcarina of Time but there was like a two year gap but with BotW there will likely be a 6 year gap which is roughly the usual gap between fully new 3D Zelda (I obviously appreciate Covid would have contributed to this).

If future Zelda are all going to be big expansive open world experiences I'm fascinated to see where the series will go from BotW but I don't think we'll really find out until the next gen.

Pretty sure you can use the sheikah sensor for that purpose.

Picked this backup and continuing my second play through, love it  taking a break for a couple of months was a good idea as it’s all feeling fresh again!

Just been exploring the map, still need to find the side quest to start the town building mission as I never did that before. I also need to visit Eventide Island as, whilst I did reach it on my first play through, I don’t think I actually completed that part. Then there’s the DLC stuff which I think unlocks once the main missions are done.

Came up against a blue Lynal and it has repeatedly kicked my ass

You specialise in these ;)

I'm at 94 hours in on the Wii U. Never did one of the guardians nor the castle. I'm thinking I should just pick it up (with the DLC) on Switch and start over at this point. Having it always on standby and not having to use the game pad would be a big QoL upgrade for me. I started my playthrough when it first released, and have not played it at all for about 2 years, possibly more.

95 hours on the clock in this now, fell in love with it again  got all 4 divine beast down now, going to go through and get the captured memories and do some side quests before I eventually tackle Ganon. Got the DLC missions to do as well.

I get the impression that it won't be quite that simple. There is no way a reused map is in development for 6 years. That's equal to the time it took for the original and they now have the game engine and physics in place which apparently was the hardest part of the original.

In that time despite helping out with Zelda, Monolith will have released 2 Xenoblade Chronicles titles and an impressive remaster of the original.

I'm expecting the criticisms of the first to be corrected, namely some proper dungeons.

I see why they went with Shrines as they had to design BOTW with portable play in mind so having lots of bitesized dungeons fit in with this paradigm.
