Is this in relation to the new BotW2 trailer? Did you mean to post in the BotW2 thread? The one you yourself made?

Yeah, it's only available if you the Expansion Pass now (includes both DLC packs). I'd say it's worth it if you're looking for reasons to spend more time in that world.

Pretty sure the DLC has only ever been available through the expansion pass.

Really? Now you say it that does feel kind of familiar, but this page for just The Master Trials pack says:

This content is no longer available to purchase in Nintendo eShop.

The wording of 'no longer available' implies that it used to be available separately. Probably just a quirk of the system.

OrangeRKN wrote:Think that's just Nintendo's online being Nintendo'd, yeah

Now I see why Dan was confused though.

I understand that the two DLCs could only be downloaded as the Expansion Pass - my point is, it is currently impossible to purchase the Expansion Pass...

There's no way would Nintendo offer a digital download for purchase only for a limited time. Oh, wait...
Anyway, it's probably just an error in this case. What happens when you try to purchase the DLC? Where are you trying to buy it from? Have you tried purchasing it through the Switch eShop and through the website?

Yeah I was trying via the eShop but hadn't seen that website link - cheers.

I've been playing this pretty intensely the last few months. I guess I've got nothing new to add over what's been said. It's amazing.

Does downloading the DLC work mid-way through a game? Also how much does it interfere? I'm still "only" 90 hours in the base game, with one Beast down, but want the vanilla experience still. I don't want the extra shrines and stuff popping up. All I really want right now is the Hero's Path function.

It will become active immediately. Personally I liked getting it having finished the game because Hero's path is then retrospective - helping you find what you missed - rather than intrusive in changing how you approach playing the game by being a little less organic in your exploration. The DLC equipment quests will all just appear in your journal. The main content is progress gated though for the trial of the sword and the bonus divine beast.

Yeah, I agree with you in that having the path might make travel less organic and more focused on the dreading "filling in the map" urge I get in Assassin's Creed and the like.

At the moment, it's very haphazard and ADHD-fuelled, where I get distracted about fifteen times on the way to something. Hence why I've still only done one beast in 90 hours.

Isn't there still a bit of filling in the map urge on this - don't the location/landmark names on the map only appear once you have been somewhere? Plus of course the whole map is still gated behind the tower concept which really needs to die a horrible death now!

Doesn't everyone play BotW like this? :shifty:

I need to get the DLC just to see what my journey was like, definitely remember many a detour along the way!

Yeah definitely, it's just at a larger scale than seeing exactly where you have and haven't been. I don't think having Hero's path from the start would ruin the game or anything, I just personally thought it worked well only seeing it after completing the game.

Hero's path is great. I wander a hell of a lot, but tend to find myself treading the same sort of path without meaning to, so it's a great way to explore another bit of an area you think you've covered.

I fancy going to that mountain > Oh I've only walked around the right side of it > go and explore the bit you haven't seen.

I've found a fair few nice little areas I'd never have seen thanks to it.

I didn't mind the towers so much, as they are visible in the distance so you can head towards them organically, rather than in AC where you go check your map to see where the eagle icon is.

And in AC, the map is a lot more useful, and climbing the tower also shows loads of icons on your map which you really need to engage with the game.

With BOTW,. a lot of stuff gets done organically through site. The world is very large and sparsely populated so points of interest stand out a lot more. You don't need the minute details showing you where to go. You also get landmarks and structures with which you can orientate yourself by (the beasts and the big blight in the centre, as does the familiar Zelda structure of areas being arranged at compass points around the central castle).

I thought the towers where awesome.

You could always see 3 or 4 from each tower so could mark where they were to work towards them and they all have a different challenge to get on to them and up to the top.

Really really think that should stay, I probably had more fun getting to and up some of the towers than some of the shrines.

The shrines were probably my least favourite part of BotW. Same aesthetic, often tiny puzzles, the combat shrines repeated... I'd like to see the sequel do something radically different there.

I like the puzzle ones where you had to find you way to the end using powers and such, but the combat ones, the motion ones and the two where you had to move the balls to match the pattern of the other one sucked.

I liked the shrines, but felt they could have been expanded upon - so hopefully the sequel builds on them.

I also enjoyed searching for the towers, as it was never a straight line and loads of distractions. It was less engaging second time around though, and I worry using the same map will miss that feeling of exploring the unknown that my first play through of the first had, and second play through was missing. But I'm staying optimistic until proven otherwise.

I’m about six hours in so far. I’ve found one memory, done the very first couple of main quests, chased cuccos in Kakariko and generally farted about exploring the place. My God this is a beautiful game.
