I hate the gyro aiming

I just don't think it works in handheld, having to move the console itself means changing the angle of the screen you are looking at.

I bought BOTW a second time this time on switch digitally in the sale. After discounts and gold points the DLC which I've never played was about £5.70 :toot:

So I've just restarted the game this time on Master Mode. Bloody hell the new enemy placements (with some surprises such as bokoblin outposts suspended by octoroks in mid air) and starting with blue and sometimes black bokoblins right from the start is challenging :slol:

Had a bit of a strop with this after about ten hours when I strayed a bit too far away from the beginner's section and started getting my arse handed to me regularly, but I've steadied the course and am back to thoroughly enjoying it again. One divine beast out of the way, and about thirty shrines done.

Some highlights included finding an ancient temple in the arse end of nowhere that was utterly infested with guardians, then simply sprinting past all the guardians to get to the shrine at the far end. Another was getting my ass handed to me by a load of Wizzrobes at one of the tower locations, then finding a mountain and just gliding to the tower, missing out all of the stuff below. Managed that on three of them and have now unlocked the whole map.

If it's the place I'm thinking of with all those Wizzrobes, it doesn't help that you also have to swim across to the tower in the first place, thus moving slower and so more likely to get hit.

I'm not even sure if you can swim, I sank pretty quickly when I tried it, but then when I respawned spotted the mountain nearby and just climbed that instead.

You can definitely swim, but your stamina runs out fast if you do, so it was probably a combination of swimming and Cryonis stepping stones I used.

Oh I know you can swim, and I have 1.8 stamina bars, but I thought it was that tar-like goop that surrounded that one where you sink right away. Maybe I'm getting mixed up with a different tower, I ended up blitzing them to get the map sorted out so did one after the other.

I only ever remember the tower at the lake being surrounded by Wizzrobes, but then it has been four years. I kind of remember one full of goop, which proved to be a bit of a platforming challenge, but I'm not sure Wizzrobes were there.

The fun of BOTW, you can go anywhere you like, but if you do you will die

Dying has been kind of educational though, it's part of the "fun" in a way. Surviving in areas where I *should* die has been a joy as well, makes me feel like a boss. Loading up on health items and potions to go exploring in the frozen north, for example, was brilliant.

Just found a shrine behind a waterfall, I am loving the positioning of a lot of these in less than obvious places. It's going to be very difficult to 100% this game, but I'm into the challenge. :D

The perfect game doesn't exis-

I loved dying repeatedly in BotW. That just doesn't happen in my experience of Nintendo games and I found it hugely motivational. They absolutely nailed the 'start off as a noob and eventually become a demi-god' satisfaction experience in this.

I think part of this is also it's supposed to be a homage to the NES original, which is hard.

You say that about Nintendo however, I die a lot in the 2D Mario games.

I don't recall dying especially often either. The fact that it is such an open game with so many ways that you can tackle most situations (including simply avoiding most enemies or running away from them when you find yourself outmatched) means it often feels much easier than any other Zelda game IMO - there are less (possible even no) areas where you are forced into a very difficult challenge that you MUST do - probably the closest it gets is the Hyrule Castle section and even that is very open to stealth and evasion as a mechanism to get through easily enough.

Beyond intentionally making it more difficult by not adding more hearts for a long time, it's not overly difficult. If I did die, it was usually from tumbling off a high place in the rain. Now the lion horse guys, those I would get killed by a fair amount.

Put me down as another member of Team Died-A-Lot. Granted, this is probably because I went in with expectations of the combat being a similar difficulty to other Zelda games. Once you learn not to charge in headfirst every time it becomes a lot easier.

Once I got Mipha's Grace the threat of death mostly disappeared, although frustratingly if you get revived that still shows up on hero's path as a "death".

The Lynel at Zora's domain was the closest run thing but I just ate a load of meals I had thankfully prepared. Usually though it's enough to just pause to the inventory and jam a bunch of apples into Link's face mid-fight.
