Yeah, I didnt mind the world so much as the way it was implemented. That sucked having to strawberry float about with things so you can stand in certain places without taking damage.

My point still stands, though. Metroid has had a Dark world in a 3D game of the series.

The Twilight realm doesn't count.

Only because in my memory it's not all of the light world, just bits. If I am wrong, then, I am wrong.

I really didn't like it much, I actually agree "sucked" is hyperbole but I hope a Breath of the Wild "dark world" would be a lot closer to ALTTP's / ALBW's, which is great.

Something like the timeline overlap from Dishonored 2's "Crack in the Slab" mission would be awesome in a Zelda. Using an item like the Magic Mirror to see through to the other world from where you are now, switching between them at will to solve puzzles or get the drop on enemies...

Can't believe people actually want a flip world dynamic in 2019 :dread:

Why not? I like the recontextualisation of areas, and the added density of design they can bring.

I personally find dark worlds boring to explore. I think in the past they've been used as a way of increasing a game's length by re-using assets.

I hated the twilight realm in Twlight Princess because I just wanted to explore the normal world.

In BOTW a huge part of the game's appeal was exploring the world. The sequel will lose that aspect if it's reusing that model of Hyrule with changes or a dark world. I really hope it has a substantial new area.

What about the Dark World in ALTTP and Lorule in ALBW, the future/past in OoT, and the time/seasonal splits in the oracles? I think they are all good examples - and overall Zelda has a good record with the mechanic. Twilight Princess is probably the worst.

I haven't ever completed ALTTP (it's on my SNES app list to complete!) but I wasn't a huge fan of Lorule in ALBW and the future/past in OoT isn't a dark world. Time shifts don't bother me as much to be honest especially if there are plenty of new areas and changes.

I think that's semantics and mechanically the future/past in OoT is near enough equivalent, as is something like changing the seasons in Oracle of Seasons. What's the difference between a change made because of the passage of time, and a change made because you're in the dark world?

I think's it more just the style and "sense of place" I dislike in dark worlds rather than the flip itself. It's hard to explain but I suppose it's a personal preference more than anything else.

I don't think I like any of the Zelda flip world Mechanics. OOT is probably my favourite if you would even count that. It's not good in MP2 either.

Alternate messed up Hyrule instead please a la Majora's Mask. That way they can reuse the same assets and characters but it not be the same environments in a different hue / modified environments we've already explored.

The official series timeline has BotW sat at the bottom, i.e. it's the most recent entry in the series chronologically, and doesn't take into account the way the timeline "splits". I'd like to see BotW too account for this e.g. if BotW 1 was the world where Link was victorious in Ocarina of Time, maybe the flipside will be a world where he was defeated?

I'm pretty sure the official line is that BOTW takes place in all three timelines and unifies them

The time shift is probably worse for reusing assets. The dark world and lorule may use the same map, but everything is different.

The time shift was one of the most disappointing parts of OOT for me, I was expecting to emerge as adult Link to a world of utter devestation where Ganon(dorf?) has ruled unchallenged for years and brought a terrible fate to the world!!!

Except, other than the Castle and the surrounding town being a bit of a ruin ... it's just basically the same. :|

I know there are many time, artistic, and technical based reasons why they didn't or couldn't make the world more different, but it was still a bit of a let down.

Tbf knocking down Hyrule Castle and building Ganon's Castle in its place was a very impressive seven year infrastructure project, especially considering Hyrule numbers five carpenters total.

There is no official line.

I’d never had strong feelings about light/dark worlds before (apart from the crappy purple one in MP2E), apart from thinking that the LttP/Lorule music is a banger. I think I would like it less in BotW2 because the emphasis in BotW1 is on exploration and discovery, and the world is for the most part too big for there to be several recognisable places to go, ‘Oh that’s changed!’ I think Nintendo would still make a great game though.
