So, my journey into the lands of Hyrule have begun this week, so far I’ve just reached the part where you get the Champions tunic from Impa, unlocked 2 towers as well. Think I will spend sometime searching the world and just having a mooch to see what goodies I can find before heading for the first Divine Beast.

Met my first Lynel and got destroyed 3 times  will try and tackle on when I start to build up my hearts.

Protip: Visit the tech lab in Hateno asap. Get some ancient bits and bobs from the stationary guardians and upgrade your stasis rune so it affects enemies. Those 1-2 seconds of breathing space is enough to get in behind a Lynel and kick it in the arse.

There is also a very easy cheat you can pull off to get the master sword without needing all the hearts. https://youtu.be/UDt2hcyKyic

These 2 things will make your journeys a lot more bearable as you always have a weapon that doesn't break and you can always freeze badguys if you want to leg it.

Lol, since I'm just trying to get to the DLC basically, I may consider this glitch a part of the game for my 2nd playthrough for Switch. On master mode however, good weapons aren't all that scarce as all the enemies are harder and have better drops.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Alternate opinion: don't do this

Enjoy using a variety of weapons while it's still viable in the early game and discover places naturally as you go

I have got to the tech lab but only had the parts to upgrade the sensor right now, I’ll head back once I come across more guardian parts.

Interesting tip on getting the Master Sword early, first time I played this I never got the sword until late in the game! I’m not going to hunt it out straight away but once I reach the Lost Woods and those parts I’ll have a look.

Still exploring Hyrule, not touched any of the divine beasts yet, just been focusing on getting to the towers and finding shrines to up my hearts/stamina. Still loving it, using the Amiibo cards every so often to fill up on materials and spent about 10 minutes tonight just cooking dishes

Decide to pick this up again this morning.

First off, this game is amazing. It oozes quality, so many little touches that just make the whole game world feel alive. My save had me close to the bottom right of the map, so I decided to go off to windfall island.

It's amazing. What a concept, going back to basics and using everything you've learned so far to survive. I've only got one orb at the moment, so 2 to go. I hope they can figure out a way of getting this kind of feeling throughout the entire next game, because you can almost have too many options when you've got a load of stuff. Just this little island giving so much gameplay, and you can tackle it in any way you want.

This is why I think eventide and the Great Plateau are game highlights - you're forced to be creative and use the environment rather than it just being a choice to engage with those things.

100%

Despite how undeniably excellent it is the game will always be an experience that is somewhat tinged with disappointment for me. The Plateau sets up such a brilliant cocktail of survival, improvisation and creativity being required of the player - forcing them to engage with the systems and environment in a way that is so satisfying to experience. But then the remainder of the game almost entirely fails to follow through on those same elements. There's still a whole heap of cool stuff you can do with the systems, but it's rarely actually needed, or even rewarded, so often it's a case of "why bother?"

I wouldn't go that far as I think we've argued before (you should experiment because it's fun!) but there are specific things on the Great Plateau that don't really get a chance to come back - cutting down a tree to bridge a ravine, setting fire to long grass to burn out an encampment, pushing rocks down onto enemies from above. The latter two are setups you can repeat elsewhere but are probably most tightly designed on the Great Plateau. Iirc a problem with environmental attacks like pushing boulders is that the damage doesn't scale, so while on the Great Plateau you can use it to kill enemies in one satisfying move, later in the game it is doing minimal damage - so even where you can choose to do these things, the results aren't the same so it isn't quite as satisfying.

I would be completely fine with BOTW2 in 2023; I have enough games and more upcoming to tide me over until then and I'd also be prepared to wait if it allows Nintendo to get everything absolutely right.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Aye, March 2023 release for BOTW2 would suit me fine and I still expect this will be the case

Don't worry, they can flog us the Wii U TPHD and WWHD ports for £50 a piece to fill the gap :toot:

Indeed we have discussed this all before! :D

It amounts to the difference between it being a 9/10 and a 10/10 game for me, so it's not like I'm arguing that because of this drop in improvisation strictly required of the player the game suddenly becomes bobbins or anything!

I think with a degree of balancing/scaling adjustments, combined with some more intentional setup of challenging scenarios, they could have retained a greater amount of that early feeling further into the game. More than anything I think it's just my own hopes that were the problem - those first few hours got me so excited for the kind of problems I was going to be presented throughout the game and the inventive solutions I was going to need to come up with to overcome them, that it was just a bit of a 'hmph' moment when that perceived promise never quite came to pass.

I just used the glitch to get the Master Sword, other than not being able to complete the Hero’s Quest plot line, does this bugger any other content up? Could I still do the trials of the sword for instance?

So I think this may have buggered up my game, I was fighting with the Master Sword and a message came up saying the power was drained but the weapon break animation played and now I no longer appear to have the sword in my inventory :shifty:

Any idea if I can get this back? Would it potentially go back to the Lost Woods?
