I’d imagine while the map is the same it will be built upon with more areas of interest and areas in the previous having a design change to reflect changes in the world after Ganon is defeated. That plus underground and Sky areas will play a big part too.

Just restarted this for the first time on the switch. I completed it first time around on the WiiU.

5 hours gone. Just like that.

After watching the Tears of the Kingdom Direct video just now, I loaded up BotW and started afresh. The adventure re-begins!

I think so, Milner... but, yeah, realistically there is no way I'll get through this before it arrives!

This is classic Jawa, I wish you the best of luck!

Have you completed it before Jawa? If so you can probably just do the 4 divine beasts, some shiners so you can grab the Master Sword and then head to Hyrule Castle surely? No need to spend a hundred plus hours on this, this one doesn’t have base building after all!

I think before it took me quite some time to get off the Great Plateau and then I made it to a town where I picked up a horse. I travelled to another nearby (hillside?) village... and then I think I kept getting duffed up in some forest area. No divine beast battles or anything like that!

Jawa, if you play for a couple of hours a day, you could actually beat BOTW before TOTK comes out. I believe in you.

I’ll definitely be loading it up again before launch just to have a few hours back in Hyrule.

Wow! :o . Thanks, Robbo. I hope to channel that wonderful accolade of having a special logo(s) when I made it off the Great Plateau back in May 2018!

Thanks, site, and amazing stuff, Milner and Robbo! It'll be cool to travel back into the Wild ahead of Kingdom launching!

GUYS.

I've really slept on the Master Sword Trials thing.

All the TOTK Hype inspired me to finally bother (previously I've given up after a few rooms as got bored). When you actually apply yourself to the task it's fantastic. Better than the (much-loved) Eventide Island for me by far.

You feel like a proper hunter-scavenger trying to make the most of limited resources, and it's engaged me with the systems in a way I previously hadn't/hadn't bothered to (and I'm someone who's done like 118 shrines so pretty fully applied myself to the game even before!). Also you feel like predator making the most of your gear to take down encampments.

But also, they take the mechanical ideas to places not taken to in the base game proper I reckon, with some really fun game-y stuff outside of the natural, organic overworld. Like in the Middle Trials (I didn't even know there were stages of trials until I beat the first set!) it starts off as a constant floating/flying air-sniper style thing, and later uses darkness and fire in ways barely touched upon in the normal adventure.

It's great. With its focussed, demanding trials it's also turning out to be a game highlight for me. Lovely way to send off the game before TOTK! Recommended.

I've finally got the master sword on my DLC / second play through on Switch (originally Wii U so this took a while). Does that unlock the master sword trials?

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I don't know as I only embarked on them at the end of the game (I'd completed the game before the DLC was released).

Actually I just looked up and it seems once you've unlocked the Master Sword you can then put it back in the ground to unlock said trials! :)
