I thought they were reusing the same world, but I'll happily be corrected.

I thought they’d be using the same world but with a lot of changes, hopefully something like the Dark World was in ALTTP? Fingers crossed proper dungeons make a return too.

I tried to have a second play through of the first during the summer, but ended up drifting away from me as it didn't grab me in the same way - turns out it was the joy of the discovery of the unknown which made me enjoy it so much first time around, which unfortunately didn't translate to my second play. I still found it to be an enjoyable game, but even just having the landscape be familiar lessened my experience as exploring random corners was very rewarding.

They're going to have to come up with a new world, surely? Surely? If they re-used the same Hyrule without some very significant twists, it would suggest that they'd missed the point of BotW1 - which doesn't feel likely.

I agree if they want to recapture the same brilliance of BOTW they would need a new world to explore, but I don't think BOTW2 is going to be about exploration and experimentation in the same way that BOTW was. That said, I'd have thought a different style of game would need significant map alterations to compliment it regardless!

In fact I'd bet that anyone who goes into the sequel wanting more-of-the-same is going to be disappointed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same world but with previously inaccessible areas.

Anouma confirmed it's the same world a while back. Whether that means the same Hyrule or the same 'world' in the sense that Majora's Mask is the same world as Ocarina.

I thought majora's mask was a parallel world to ocarina's Hyrule?

Or is it just another town?

Clearly need to actually read Hyrule Hystoria instead of looking at the pictures :fp:

World in the story sense, as in it’s the same Link so everywhere he goes is part of his world.

Oh right, I see what you mean. Yeah I always figured it was the same link, how he got there is anyone's guess.

Most people will find it late game -> probably after beating all of the divine beasts -> somewhere in Hyrule Castle

A potentially spoilery response:

Ha, thought that would be the case. I'm now at Hyrule Castle (the early stages) but have lost all my shields thanks to the guardians (is that what they're called?) so am struggling to make gainful progress...

Spoilered for safety.
How are you losing all your shields to the Guardians? Are you trying to block their lasers or something? There's a very simple way to temporarily disable their lasers and give you time to deal with them or simply run away...

Yeah, I've been trying to do that shield parry move that deflects the laser back at them, which usually 1HKOs them, or at least 2HKOs some of the toughest ones.
My timing isn't great though as it seems to depend on how far you are from them, and it's hard to get to the optimum distance when you're constantly being blown up!

Thanks gents - got the shield

...and, finally finished the game! :o Over 2 & a half years since beginning  Though I've been playing on and off.

When I say finished, I've beaten the final boss - I've not found everything (I rarely do!) However, I'd be interested to hear what people's favourite moments were, in case there is anything significant I've missed?

Things I've not missed:

Tarrey Town
Master Sword & Hylian Shield
Eventide Island
Dark Link Outfit
Skelton Outfit from GSC
Both labyrinths
Unlocking the whole map
Thunder Helm

Have you traced the source of the light that sometimes beams out from Satori mountain? Definitely worth trying if not

Lurelin Village because an unfortunate number of people do miss it...

Glad you found Tarrey Town, that's the other big thing that is easy to miss :toot:

Have you done the snowboarding races?

I went back to this recently and I'm 90 hours in, and still only done one divine beast.

It's amazing all these years later. Still looks great, as the visual style is just so clean. For me, the vast nothingness of the open world should be a drawback - there's a lot of empty space - but for some reason, it's captivating. There always manages to be something just on the horizon that you can work towards.

I also think all the systems just tie together so neatly. Yes, even weapon degradation which I've always thought was essential in making you mix up your stuff.

Trying to get it done so that BOTW2 is fresh, but I just can't seem to rush through it. It's great to just lose an hour or two in rambling about.

First time it was great, but i had no motivation on my second run and just wish it had traditional dungeons. Great game, but its not the best zelda for its time. I do hope it gets a 4k remaster soon or at least 60fps update.

It doesn't need a remaster, it's four years old. The visuals are fine the way they are and were made with the Switch's limitations in mind. We've seen with the Skyward Sword HD stuff that sometimes blowing up the resolution on games it wasn't intended for can blot or diminish their styles somewhat.

Games like BOTW (and Skyward Sword, and Wind Waker) have a certain timeless look to their visuals as they were never pushing for fidelity.

I've come off the back of playing a few 60fps games as well, and the frame rate in docked mode hasn't bothered me.

You discover the Lord of the Mountain there, right? If so I've done that.

I think I've done these - is there a particular reward for the snowboarding races?I'm not sure I've done them all.

This is a good stance, but I have to admit that sometimes I turn the motion smoothing/frame correction setting to Max on my TV (effectively faking 60fps at the expense of a slight input lag) and it looks goshdarn incredible. I even find it jarring going from (say) Odyssey to BotW though of course you adjust.

So a full remaster is a bit premature for sure, but a Switch Pro 60fps upgrade or something would still be welcome for me!

P.s. SOMETIMES I think lower frame rate can Work for a game, in the Gladiator-style highlighting of kineticism or whatever. And sometimes it's just my association - if I picture OOT it's at a lower frame rate that I've got as synonymous with it. And sometimes lower frame rates still animate well - I still find Mario 64 to run 'smooth' to me whilst Sunshine remaster looks jerky as heck for some reason.

So I don't think it's a universal answer! But try BotW with the TV smoothing on as an experiment!

Also wrt Herdanos above: Yes that's the Satori mountain thing I was referencing
