Yeah that’s a much more consistent way actually, especially if you target the animals that will drop gourmet meat as well.

Cute.

Still depresses me though that so many people seem to think that BoTW invented this kind of thing when PC games and players were doing large scale experimentation and emergent gameplay in loads of games 20+ years ago.

A hell of a lot of the buzz around the game, both from fans and media, was focused on things like the emergent gameplay, ability to play with systems and their interactions etc.

And that stuff is great and a huge part of why I love games that properly explore it (and tend to bounce off those that are more like roller coasters or movies where you just have to do exactly what the designers want). But it's not new and this game getting so much praise for it because it feels like the first time people might have experienced it themselves is still a bit frustrating.

It may not have been limited to PC before BOTW (which btw isn't what I said ;) ) but it is far more established in PC and whilst consoles have cottoned on to it over the years its presence in PC games certainly predates this trend.

I don't understand why that would frustrate you. BotW is rightly praised for it's emergent gameplay, it is a fantastic example of the concept; it's not being praised for it because the idea is new, it's being praised for it because the idea has been executed brilliantly.

Well as stated I think it did receive praise because many people thought this stuff was new, and secondly I don't think it is executed brilliantly. :lol:

It's great that the game learned some interesting things from games that came before, and did some genuinely impressive work in streamlining the execution of some of its systems like the slate powers, but I just find it frustrating (a little but at least) that people fawned over these elements to such an extent as if it was some groundbreaking scenario. They also held back in embracing the free form nature that truly makes the potential of emergent gameplay shine in my view - a few too many scenarios where plausible approaches and tactics from the player are denied because a prescribed solution is required.

I don't really see that as a problematic viewpoint either. I'm not saying it's a bad game (it's a bloody brilliant one!) or denying that these emergent elements are a great part of the game. But if someone comes on a music forum and starts banging on about how Lenny Kravitz is a musical genius and invented reggae then I think people would rightly be able to say "uh, hold on a sec..." :lol:

It's a good line but a poor example.

It seems more likely to me that you saw universal praise for these elements in a game that you didn't like as much as most people and incorrectly inferred that everyone thought it was entirely new & groundbreaking. To continue your example, it's as if you visited said music forum, found a thread in which everyone was fawning over a Beethoven symphony that you didn't think was his best and objected because 'Mozart had used all of those notes already'.

Defeated Ganon. Very easy!

Disappointed there is no post game though. Just loads up again and ganon is still alive.

I can see why they do it (Ganon being the reason that the world is full of monsters) but this has always frustrated me about Zelda games. It's actually not as bad in BotW as it is in most Zelda games, in my opinion.

Finally went and beat Ganon today so I can play another game after only having BOTW in my Switch for the 3 months I've owned it. Was totally pimped out so was a very easy fight.

Unquestionably the greatest game I've ever had the fortune of experiencing. What a joy that was.

I finally started this over Christmas. It's very relaxing and feels luxurious and I want to play more but I don't think I've seen anything yet that's made me think "best game ever". I'm only a few hours in though so it's still too early to tell.
