Sometimes you just gotta be sure you're sure.

Tempted to pick up the DLC for this as a reason to go back in but judging by some of the feedback in here it doesn't seem like it's worth it? Looking at what you get for the cost is a bit of a let down as well. How can CDPR put out something like Blood & Wine for Witcher 3 which gives you a huge new area to play in, a whole new central quest, and loads of side quests and content for the same price as this damp squib from Nintendo?

I'd say its worth it. A bunch of quality of life features (summonable teleporting horse, movable fast travel point, hero's path on the map), the hardest challenge in the game with the Trial of the Sword (that also rewards you with the fully powered master sword), a handful of extra shrines and a whole new divine beast with the best boss battle in the game, a motorbike(!) to ride around on, and some fun costumes to find.

Oh and master mode, which I think is worth playing for the Great Plateau (I didn't play any more than that, but it changes the plateau significantly enough to make it an interesting variant).

Yeah I'll probably give it a shot soon, I was just hoping for more new stuff from it - the world is the main draw in the game and the DLC doesn't really expand on that. The quality of life stuff will probably be the best part for me I think!

Master mode sounds interesting as well.

Yeah, a new region would have been excellent DLC so that is disappointing

The DLC is definitely worth it. From the Master Trials, to the costumes, QOL and the Champions Ballad. There’s a lot of new content there for you for a pretty small price. It’s a shame there’s new area and the story stuff isn’t better but that doesn’t diminish what you do get.

The DLC is probably worth the £20 ish it costs, adds quite a lot of content on the whole. When you compare it to say ‘Blood & Wine’ from the Witcher 3 it probably doesn’t compare though, I’ve not played it but my brother raved about how it added a huge section to the map, lots of new quests (guessing a main and plenty of side ones) and certainly prolonged his time with the game.

13 million copies sold, best selling Zelda title by far

Edit: Sorry if this is old news, it was from a ResetEra thread that was posted a month ago, someone bumped it this week to ask if PS4 had similar games :fp:

Even better, Mario Odyssey has sold 13.76 million, that's more than Galaxy.

I hope nobody minds me bumping the thread but I'm on my first play through (and am avoiding spoilers so cheers to everyone who's spoilered their secrets earlier in the thread! )

I was a bit overwhelmed at first - after about five hours the game just seemed too sprawling and massive - but it's properly clicked now and I'm loving it. I'm meant to be returning to Impa as my main quest objective right now, but I've become distracted along the way and instead have defeated three Hinoxes to reveal a shrine, discovered a fairy fountain, run away from a Lynel, activated two more towers, sailed to an island that I then had to abandon because it pinched all my stuff and wouldn't let me save, cooked bananas with everything, and seen a flippin' electric dragon! The world just seems to be packed pull of fascinating things to do. In old Zelda games I'd explore every part of the towns and villages I came across but I've mostly passed through them as there is more exciting stuff to do in the outside world! (Apart from one instance where I've committed to buying a house.)

Pancake wrote:This really is something special, I've never played a game that makes aimless exploring so fun and rewarding, the world is incredibly vibrant... It's beautifully designed as well, perfect for long stints or short bursts when you have a spare 30 minutes... I love how they have turned the dungeons into 100+ mini puzzles instead, for me that is the perfect way to experience Zelda magic but with none of the frustration.

I totally agree with you, Pancake. While I never disliked any Zelda dungeons until Skyward Sword, I can't imagine revisiting the old format now - I much prefer the shrines and abundance of side quests.

It's excellent that you're still discovering all this for yourself this far after release! My one piece of advice is to make sure to completely upgrade your house

The house sub-quest is tremendous! I still like old-style dungeons though.

I love it when first-timers bump this thread with updates because it reminds me of my first playthrough.

I’ve just gone back to this. I had rinsed all the shrines and DLC then started master mode and got to the point I was off the Plateau. I forgot how hard master mode is! Combat is almost pointless in some cases. I like it though, it changes up the whole game. Feels like the vulnerable early days from when I first played the game.

It is great to see other peoples impressions of the first few hours after putting roughly around 250 hours into it. Really brings back my first few hours with the game, wondering where on earth to go (in the end I just ended up following the first few objectives till I got to grips with it) while just loving exploring where ever I wanted to.

Just unlocked central tower, I think I may be getting the hang of the guardian parry! I was using the eye but it’s easier I find to use the sound to judge it, that said I haven’t tried long distance yet.

Pro controller is just so comfy!
