I downloaded the last couple of episodes to watch having heard good reviews. Think I'll stick with it through to the end now. As Mori said, the 200th ep was really good

How do you figure that one out?

The fact that Ted was telling the mother's story, something about the phrasing when he was talking about her singing sounded like he wasn't going to be hearing her sing again. The biggest clue was that episode a while back where Ted fantasizes meeting the mother a couple of months earlier because he wanted to spend more time with her.

Wasn't there a flashforward though to when they're in their fifties at a school reunion and she's there?

I must admit, I've only just watched the bit you're referring to and there might be something to the theory. It does all seem a bit past tense.

:(

Also, as much as the funnies haven't been coming thick and fast, one of the reasons I initially got into this show was that the storyline actually had quite a bit of chop to it (Season 4's 'The Leap' bought a gooseberry fool ton of good will from me and is probably the only reason I'm still watching), and this episode was actually really good from that standpoint.

Though I can't tell whether the whole 'Dead Boyfriend' angle was a good bit of character background or just a plausible reason to circumnavigate having to explain who she's been strawberry floating for nine seasons.

If they kill the mother I don't even know what I'd do.

I can't even decide whether that would be the greatest rug-pull ever (he's telling them this after the wake) or just the most horrendous mis-step ever.

IIRC he told Wendy Waitress he was married with kids in a flashforward.

Having just double-checked via Google apparently that flashforward was set in 2021 and he's telling the kids HIMYM in 2030.

Good, I like the idea of that kind of gut-punch twist but that would have been a little too much.

It was horrible. I mean, the point was made. The only way they could have made it more obvious is if they put big letters on screen saying "ROBIN IS LIKE TED'S BALLOON".

I did this by severing my real arms and replacing them with super-human cyborg arms.

I thought the brief flashback of the balloon later in the episode was done pretty well but then they ruined it at the end with that shite

It was an overly obvious visual to hammer home the point that Ted was finally letting Robin go.
