Oh, this is looking interesting enough without revealing anything too spoilery. All we know for sure is that our Mando will have contact with the New Republic. Seems like he's on a mission with them. Looking forward to the 30th October for sure.

Six episodes in now.

Underwhelmed to say the least!

It looks/sounds feels like Star Wars which after the prequels goes a long way.

Quite early on I was thinking what is the point of this, what is his plan? It all seems a bit twee and pointless.

Then last night something dawned on me as to why I'm not feeling it.

I thought there was always a clamour for something like this because (rightly or wrongly) Boba Fett has this iconic reputation as being some bad-ass, clinical ruthless bounty hunter.

I know he isn't Boba Fett - but each episode just seems to be him going from one place to another and getting into some sort of scrape and generally unconvincingly getting out of it.

He doesn't have any aura, no one seems to really respect or fear him and everyone is constantly taking liberties with him. A lot of the time he only gets out of the predicament he finds himself in because of luck / help from someone else.

When Darth Vader turns up at the end of Rogue One they absolutely nailed it. This proper bad-ass, mutha-fucker turns up, everyone gooseberry fools themselves and he slaughters everyone in his path.

The Mandalorian would be better in Three Men and a Baby.

Boba Fett's "reputation" is based entirely and completely on his badass armor. We know almost nothing of his exploits after the Clone Wars (which he only survived because he was able to ingratiate himself with Bossk, Aurra Singh et al, and because his Mandalorian helm was able to deflect a blaster bolt fired by Cad Bane), other than the fact that he's a bounty hunter of considerable renown.

A show that explores his life in the underbelly of galactic society, and the bounty hunting culture operating on the fringes of the Imperial legal system, would be great. There's a lot of now not-canon old EU content that could be resurrected.

The show is literally building the character's reputation. He doesn't start out as the supreme force in galactic bounty hunting, he's not Vader level badass, but the expectation is that he will grow and develop. We see a glimpse of that in the season finale, and I think we'll see more going forward.

Yeah but one glimpse of personality per season is, I think, a valid criticism.

You are quite right, but as long as he strictly adheres to his adopted clan's practices and beliefs, we won't know much about him, and the criticism will only grow in volume, justifiably.

But I get the practice's purpose - it's likely about rebuilding and/or maintaining and a reputation shattered when the Empire destroyed the few remaining population centers on Mandalore, turning the Mandalorians into a people without a home. What are they without their armor and practices, when the rest of their heritage is gone?

I think we need more and longer flashbacks each episode, and his character needs to grow to understand that cultural rigidity isn't going to save him or those around him. Adaptation and reconciliation should be themes to explore.

Also, back to Boba Fett, as cool as it would be to get his very different perspective on the galaxy, we have a huge gap of time between the damaged angry clone child and badass veteran bounty hunter. I find it hard to believe that a show or movies based on his life would see him as being inherently less beaten up or more badass than Mando.

Not really hyped by the return of this. I was fairly lukewarm on season 1 when it first came out and as time has gone on I think that view has only solidified.

There's definitely scope for this to be a great show, and there were hints at that in S1, but I'm not convinced they know how to hit the right notes to get there.

I'd rather the opposite to trying to make the show about Mando's character development. He's the main character but doesn't need to be the protagonist - he can just help out in a new story every episode just because he happens to be there.

Something worth noting: The Child was born in the same year as Anakin Skywalker.

This will never be relevant to anything, but I thought it interesting.

My main gripe with the first series was its Monster of the Week format. I've no problem with Mando being an empty vessel, but 75% of season one felt like filler. I'm hoping they have a more structured throughline this time

Been rewatching series 1 before series 2 comes out tomorrow (does anyone know if it’s one or two episodes on the first week?) and I’ve just got the last episode to watch, going to watch it tomorrow so I can go straight into the next series.

Awesome news, wasn’t sure if we would have to wait for a reasonable hours launch in the states first.

Well, that was wild. A great start to the second season featuring two things I'd hoped for from previous novels, and a great ending action set piece. Brilliant.
