Currently my weight watching is taking the form of counting calories, and hopefully I will be getting back into three gym sessions per week from this week onwards. Alongside regularly walking Loki for upwards of an hour, and trying to keep doing fifteen minutes of in-the-house exercises, I’d like to drop about 10kg before Christmas.

Don't bother with calorie counting, just nuke the carbs from your diet. You'll drop a size or two within a month.

Because you lose all the water and glycogen. Seriously that is terrible advice and why you see low carb diets as the 'lose X in 6 weeks!' adverts.

While running will obviously help you lose weight, as Rocsteady said most would be far better off doing some resistance training as you have the double whammy of getting leaner and more muscle increases your metabolism (so you can eat more). My advice would always be some kind of calorie counting to lose weight as you can adjust your diet to eat the things you want so it becomes less of a chore and something you will actually stick with.

I really hope I'm not coming across as a bit of a twat here but I'd be happy to help out if anyone needs a bit of help.

Good news everyone!
Going to the cinema counts as a light workout so why not try and get fit by watching a shitload of films at the cinema :toot: .

https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/we ... 32756.html

As an aside you'll also be helping the economy so it's win win.
I suggest writing to your local cinema and asking them to re-screen all the Star Trek films and just watching them 3 times a day.

I’ve always been a big proponent of calorie counting and watching macros etc - I lost six stone doing this in 2015 and have successfully kept the majority of it off. The problem I have now is that I haven’t had time for regular exercises for about a year and the muscle I had built is turning to flab.

Calorie counting works, simple as that. I increased my total mass by over 50% simply by calorie counting and weightlifting (I know this is the opposite to weight loss but it goes both ways).

Conversely, I decreased my total mass by 20% by calorie counting and weight lifting. ;)

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Barbell complex lifts 3 times a week
Running 2 times a week
As many (sensibly cooked) vegetables and beans/pulses as you can eat in place of fatty meats and other fatty foods
Eight hours sleep a night

Swimming is my workout of choice.
I did 5km swims last friday and satruday and have done 68km this month. I can't run though as I just hate it and feel like I get knackered after about 30 seconds :fp: . It's why I'd suck trying to be a master criminal :shifty: .

I'm 44 and feel like I'm fitter now than I've ever been which is nice :D .

I may be undoing all my good work though as I love cake and cheese  .

It's kind of hard to be inconspicuous and hide your identity when your only wearing swimming shorts to a robbery and my absolute dogshit sense of direction may hamper my getaway (I'd love to see a James Bond film chase where he just gets lost, completely confused and just gives himself up to the police because he has no idea where he is :slol: ) but I suppose it could be worth a try.

Interested in this, looking at buying some weights for home that I can stick in the garage and complete 30 minute workouts 3 times a week when I have time.

Do you just find a decent routine online and crack on? Is it something you can go into without having done anything in the form of weight training for awhile?

I've lost over 1/2 stone in the last month through not even trying. I'm guessing it's probably stress related due to major changes in my personal life. That being said I've decided to continue to try and lose more weight through a change in my diet (I get plenty of cardio at work).

I'm now under 14 stone. Want to hit 13 or below by Spring at the latest

I am a couple of years off middle-age so might as well get in early.

After getting pushed up to a cushier job last year I have spent a lot of time sitting on my ass and I have found some things I used to wear are just a little bit tighter now...

I have resumed running on weekends and plan to get back into my old gym routine at some point.

Can't believe I forgot that bit — it's the most important part!

I taught myself but did a lot of research online beforehand, watched tutorial videos etc. I also had a much more flexible, 21 year old body at the time so was less susceptible to injury.

I always used to recommend Starting Strength, but I haven't kept up with things and could be well behind the times with that one now. If you obtain a barbell, power cage/decent rack and a bench, then learn how to low bar squat, bench press, overhead press, deadlift and power clean, you can't go too far wrong.

Difficult at home unless you've got decent space and are willing to shell out on a good cage/rack as mentioned above, but by no means impossible. You'll probably need more like 45 minutes as well, half an hour is optimistic.

I'd join a gym if possible tomous. At some point I'm hoping to have a garage gym but I know I like it and will stick with it - it's a really hefty outlay for equipment you won't grow out of within a month or two.

Decent racks are loads and you'll get your deadlift above 100kg in no time, which means lots of weights. Plus a good Olympic barbell.

I am 35 and 6”4, since having a toned physic 2007 (I would go to the gym six day’s a week) I have been gaining weight with the occasional decrease but at the moment I am the heaviest I have ever been, I’m unhappy but it’s not a excuse because the fact of it is that I love food and obviously have been consuming more calories than I’m burning off, I have just started a diet but it’s so tempting to buy things when I am in the local shop (things like chocolate, biscuits, cake or doughnuts) but I am determined to do something about it

Any threads around here for quitting/cutting back on the booze? I am off skiing in late march and plan to move drink until then, but my lifestyle is very booze unfortunately.

If you find one let me know. All I can taste this morning is last night's bottle of wine :dread:.

Seriously strawberry floated off with my belly at the moment. I don't snack, rarely have sweet stuff in the evenings (:datass:), drink water all day, have a couple of wraps and a yogurt for lunch, and I've STILL got a podgy belly back thanks to Christmas and the weather being so gooseberry fool that I can't ride my bike as much as I need to. I wish the weather would get better so I can go running and cycling again regularly. I have no tone to it which is most of the problem, and every time I try to do sit ups I end up hurting myself (no matter how many different methods I try out, I always get a sore neck). Thinking of getting one of those toning belt things which I hope will help when combined with proper exersice. Anyone got any experience of using something like that?
