i don't like driving (read: Sliding all over the place) in the snow. This could cause problems for when I marry Rightey('s sister) and move to Canada.

We're pretty good about plowing/salting the roads here, unless you go out North, then it gets dangerous. Speaking of cars, looks like I'll probably be getting another Buick Regal :( It's a good car but it's just so horrendously plain on the outside. Well at least I've been able to convince my dad to look at only the supercharged versions...

Blech green. :fp:

Why do you need a supercharged 3.8l engine surely it would be more efficient to get a non-supercharged, smaller engine model.

Why do Americans insist on buying American cars, when the European rivals are infinitely superior, and just as easily available?

Serious question, no offence intended

By that logic it would also be more efficient if I just took the bus everywhere. If I'm going to get a Buick, which my dad wants me to get as we'll be able to use some parts from our current one, I at least want to get the faster of the two trim levels, there's a 3.8L regular with 175HP, and that one with a supercharger that produces 240HP. :D

1st: In general I am very willing to admit that the US cars are not the most reliable, Buicks however are an exception, I'd say they're probably the most reliable cars from the US, and that particular model/year has excellent reliability ratings even better then a lot of other Japanese cars I've been looking at.

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Spec_ ... 97#trimsel

2nd: You can make a very strong argument for buying a new Japanese or European car due to the reliability, and because they maintain their value better. However buying used is a bigger risk as if you buy a Japanese car with similair milage to a US car you will be looking at paying a lot more for it off the start, and if things start going wrong with it repair costs will be much higher as parts are usually double the price they are for domestics.

3rd: Like I said above when buying domestic your dollar goes a lot farther, for $3300 you would be looking at a car that's either much older then that buick, or has much higher mileage if you wanted a European or Japanese car.

4th: US built cars have bigger engines and are more powerful, and I have to admit I'm personally a bit of a sucker for such things.

The Buick Regal was built right in Oshawa (Canada) about a 50 minute drive from where I live.

Fair enough, but there's no excuse for those who buy their cars brand new

No, you get more for your money, and parts are still a lot cheaper. Also a lot of the US cars are European cars with different badges. For example The Vauxhall/Opel Astra here is sold under the Saturn brand.

Also I think you probably have a worse view of our cars just because when most people think of them they think they all have ancient suspension, thirsty v8's and they're all huge, which obviously for driving in Europe would be terrible, but here it works fine because all of our cities have big wide streets, and almost everything is built on a grid, and new models actually have better fuel efficiency then even Japanese cars. Although for build quality if you want to be certain it's best to get something Japanese, but then you'll probably be stuck with something that's not only boring, but also slow. That Regal may be boring but at least it's fast.

You can't import cars from Europe here, they have to be made for the North American market. :(

Edit: You can however import Japanese cars which seems very odd as the steering is on the wrong side. I was looking at a Toyota 4Runner Diesel but then my friend pointed out where the steering wheel was, which is a bit more dangerous when turning at intersection etc.

Why would you want a shower car anyways? Mr. Bean showed us you can very easily do most of your grooming routine with a normal car.

Had to pour rubbing alcohol on my window to try and melt some ice that has built up between it and the window frame so I could get some fresh air. I then realized that the window would probably freeze open and decided that a warmer stuffy room is better then a crisp freezing one.
