I'd like to know how many people here think the Military are way ahead in technology that they keep super secret. It seems that some people are of the opinion that the military have all these fantastic super devices that are decades ahead of anything in the public domain and I just don't understand why in these days of low Military funding (in the UK anyway) why they would not just bring out these supposed super computers and robots that can kick Ninjas heads in?

Are they waiting for the inevitable WW3 so they can win that before it starts by wheeling out armies of super soldiers backed up by space bombers?

I'd like to apologise for the piss poor wording of this topic but my brain seems to temporarily shut down and I'm struggling to type sentences that aren't complete tripe.

I would say that's preety much it, no country wants the others to know what their secrets are which could aid them in winning a war. God forbid there would ever be another one, but they don't want the other nations getting their hands on any of their technology, see Russian Tesla for example.

Ok, that was a bad example, but whatever.

I think in the USA they have all this super technology we don't know about, and in the UK we would have it if we had the money.

Probably not used in the standard forces though, would be used in top secret teams etc.

Though in some places, Governments might just be pretending they have all this advanced technology when they don't just to scare.

Military technology in development is always going to be quite advanced because there is always a need for our armed forces to upstage our enemies, who are continually working to upstage us. It has become a perpetual arms race and any new technologies we get, even if they have clear cut commercial applications, are going to be eaten up by the military first so they can get its advantages first to save us from certain d00m.

I can accept things like super next gen body Armour or new tank/helo designs but some people go into things like super imaging devices that will power 3DTV and stuff like that which is just plain odd.

I've heard rumours that many people you walk past in the street are just soldiers in special civilian camouflage.

They also have a helicopter that turns into a boat.

In my experience, if a war was declared today, they'd take a good two weeks to fill out the necessary forms to allow them to even think about retaliating.

Also I wish they would give out the specs to the computer chips that are a decade ahead of anything Intel have as maybe then we could play Crysis max detail with more than 5fps. Do they really need to crack codes so fast and listen to 500 million phone calls all at once?

I'd imagine most of the really high tech stuff the military has developed is not used by virtue of it being so horrendously exspensive to produce. The government is not going to spend astronomical sums of money just to save the lives of a few soliders (if you wanted to be really cynical you could say that a dead soldier costs the state less than a permanently injured one). It's not enough just to have something; you have to make it economical before it's actually any use.

Besides, I think private arms firms probably have more advanced weapontry than most state programmes.

I reckon there's a tiny flying remote controlled flying machine that is almost invisible to the naked eye, powered by magnetic fields.

Not being weird, either.

As silly as that sounds the Russians were developing a plane that turned in to a sub.

Oh and regarding the original question, I don't think they have uber advance tech but they may be testing the next step in development.

I want to see these bad boys in action, especially with Arnie manning them.

I read up on Wiki a few days ago and apparently they should be in use in about 20-25 years, or something. But how accurate are these estimates anyway?
