Now that sounds to be quite a character, Vermi! Did it go on all afternoon?
It started yesterday, was relit this morning, and went on until late afternoon.
It's far enough away that i can't tell which house is doing it, but close enough so that it blankets the entire area (especially when i'm downwind of it which is most of the time).

Thankfully a resident spotted it early; calling the fire brigade and then using a hose to help minimise the flaming. The fire brigade arrived quickly and hosed down the whole bin area. Another resident and I then spent an hour or so clearing up all the rubbish and siphoning out the water.
I'm gonna call the culprit "cigarette wanker" as I like Vermi's style
.
Wow, that's pretty dramatic stuff, glad to hear it didn't get any worse than it did.
Cigarette wanker is definitely a suitable name for that one.
