Will the flat owner care?

Seems unlikely to me until he starts getting hit in the wallet. And you said the contract he has with the agents mean that they have to pay for renovation/repairs etc.

Do you use ear plugs when you sleep Jawa? I can't sleep without them. Might be an idea.

I also use a white noise machine for sleeping. It's just something which you can focus on whilst trying to sleep and distracts you from ambient and neighbour noise when trying to sleep. The brand I use is Dreamegg.

Probably not, Drum... I understand that the owner already thinks that the resident is a "victim". Of what, I don't know; considering that the flat was literally wrecked and there have been numerous noise and damage incidents over past months, they must have spun him quite a tale.

I am a bit sensitive to noise so the white noise approach probably wouldn't suit me, but you've made a great point about ear plugs - I am going to check this out. I presume a chemist would have some... I will find out. Thanks for the tip, Proto!

It will be a bit of trial and error re the earplugs. But you can buy a bundle on amazon for £7. They are sold as disposable but I often wash mine and re-use.

Im very sensitive to noise (unreasonably so at times) but I find that the white noise machine is fine because I control when it goes on and off and it has different types of settings. I.e the one I have just now makes it sound like you're in on a train. It honestly distracts you so much from noise around you I found. Worth at least looking at YouTube reviews I'd say.

Thanks so much for the info, Proto - I do appreciate it. I am gonna check out the earplugs and I will also look into the white noise; it's not something I'd really considered but you've made me think that I should check it out. Will go explore :toot: .

Put some WD40 on their hinges, it'll cancel out the squeak. ;)

I did actually think of doing that :shifty: . But... even though WD40 is often great, it doesn't seem to work for squeaky hinges. I could try it, though :shifty: .

No worries at all. It helped me a lot. I've recently been diagnosed with hyperacusis and this has proved to be a good solution.

Additionally, does the communal door that's banging have one of these?

If so, you can slide open the box on it and adjust the speed with which it shuts using the two screws with the flat edge of a knife:

The fat cow from number 5's teenage son has become super popular around town lately. Spotted some fresh marker pen graffiti on some lampposts on the way home today which said (among other stuff) that he can kill himself, and can eat their cock.

Certainly made me chuckle.

I'm guessing he's inherited his mother's rudeness and general unpleasant nature.

There has been no change with the neighbour; i.e. it's horrendous. We're now convinced that the flat is being used for prostitution as well as drugs, as some days/nights there is a stream of single men visiting and then leaving a short while later.

Myself and other neighbours have been woken at all hours; last night between 01:12 and 05:30 I heard their front door open/close nine times, with single men seen leaving the building on seven occasions and the other two being single woman leaving. We have also seen cars driving into our car park throughout the night and people from the flat concerned collecting things from them i.e. drugs. Also saw two single men visit yesterday afternoon at different times; they each stayed for a short period and were then on their way. Nine single blokes visiting the flat in one day? We don't believe any of these people are making social calls or just enjoying a cup of tea. One neighbour said that, on Saturday night, a man in the hallway had asked her where the flat concerned was located and other neighbours have said their doors have been buzzed with men asking to be let into the flats.

Apart from not getting any sleep, safety and security is a huge concern right now with so many "non-resident" people accessing the flats through the day and night. The owner and the letting agency don't seem to want to know - it's *really* odd - but we are keeping records and sharing these with the owner and we are now reporting the incidents through CrimeStoppers.

This should have been sorted long ago, perhaps those involved are somehow linked to the letting agency/landlord (family perhaps?), it wouldn't surprise me as some of these places can be really dodgy.

It's so strange; when our management company originally approached the owner he seemed very concerned but - after the letting agency then spoke to him - there was a total turnaround and he doesn't want to know. I don't think the owner has any relation to the resident; we just don't get it.

Anyway, we just gotta hope that our records of the visits and disturbances eventually cause the police - via CrimeStoppers - to take an interest.

I am shattered today after getting maybe two hour's sleep.

Perhaps some bribes are being exchanged then? From what you say, it's a really weird and corrupt setup.

Hi Jawa, i've not followed the whole story but if you haven't i'd recommend contacting your local authority's community safety team and environmental health regarding the antisocial behaviour, noise and potential drugs issues, as well as reporting to police on 101 or via their online form on their website. Even if you report supicious activity into police it is all logged and looked at. But it definitely sounds like something that should be reported further (I speak from experience, as a local authority Community Safety Manager).

Hey, md, thanks for the suggestions! With remarkably good timing, things have moved on a bit today and much in line with your suggestions. We have contacted the owner again, notified CrimeStoppers and our management company are to contact the police (the local community team). I'm really hoping that the issue is soon brought to a close. Fingers crossed! Thanks again, dude.
