What's the acceptable level of noise to hear from your neighbours? It looks like a couple moved into the house which we share a wall with whether they are here permanently or air bnbing for a bit I don't know as they just rocked up with 4 suitcases. They play music which can be heard through the wall. It's not massively loud and it's mostly drowned out whilst watching TV (I can hear it now with the football on if I listen out for it) etc though it is quite noticeable if we're just in silence, it's usually played in bursts from mid-afternoon onwards. It doesn't really bother me but my girlfriend thinks it's really inconsiderate and are awful people, I think it's just a problem with terraced housing and remember in my old flat if I was in silence I could hear the TV from next door.

She wants to put a letter through the door asking them to turn it down, but I think that's a bit arsey but not sure whether I just have more tolerance for noise/less desire for confrontation.

It drives me crazy at any time of the day and I detest anybody that plays music so loud that their neighbours can hear.

But it's also (imo) unreasonable to think that people shouldn't be able to play music in their own homes. As long as it's at acceptable times (9am to 8pm ish) and not so loud it drowns out the TV in my home, then I think I would be unreasonable to complain.

Three different delivery guys arrived this afternoon at the Costa Woman's house, she had one guy bring her Costa, a Mc Donalds Uber Eats Guy and a Domino's Pizza delivery. Funny thing was all these blokes arrived at the same time, I don't get the whole point of home delivery as most of the stuff must be cold by the time you get it.

Home delivery stuff isn't cold by the time you get it for the most part at least from experience.

Pretty much

It's just not as enjoyable wearing headphones all of the time or listening at conversational level volume, periodically throughout the day I think its OK and it's largely also a psychological element of the "unwilling participant" not at some stage or another recently adjusted to a threshold of noise. If its constantly harder to speak or relax all day then yes that is a problem.

They might also just have a ridiculously over bassy system situated in a corner or against a wall, sometimes just moving the speakers can make an enormous difference. People aren't acousticians and it's unreasonable to expect people to understand acoustics, but something that simple can really drastically change how sound travels and that's why talking about it along those terms if it bothers you is probably the most productive approach.

"Decoupling" speakers from something can also make a big difference, a simple way of doing this is just driving some screws into the underside of a speaker or placing them on a stack of books or a lightweight stand like that. It'll remove most of the bass travel that isn't necessary for most listening purposes (and can also make the sound objectively worse) and so help with the sound pollution thing.

To be fair it did always look like Stool Bloke's was struggling to fit on either his stool or camping chair, it's no wonder he's upgraded to the sofa option!

Just introduce yourselves, meet them, get to know them... play the long game... opportunities for revenge will present themselves soon enough.

Noise from neighbours can be so difficult to handle. I think some people play their music loud and just don't realise that they may be disturbing other people; it can be frustrating.

Levels vary, of course. My ex-neighbours downstairs made a high volume of noise on a consistent basis that very much impacted me and other neighbours for years; they had absolutely no consideration for others and didn't give a gooseberry fool. They moved out about eighteen months ago (I almost cried tears of joy on that day) and the replacement tenants have been much better. They are a couple who have kids so things can get rowdy but only for short periods of time... it's a world away from the constant loud music (i.e. you could hear the lyrics of the songs they were playing in every room of my flat) and late-night shouting n' screaming sessions (the things they shouted at each other were just incredible) that the old neighbours did. They had young children who used to be running around whilst all this was going on, too - often until 2am during the parties.

It's luck of the draw with neighbours; if you're in a situation where you barely hear noise from next door (or downstairs) then try to take a moment to realise that you're actually living in a golden time.

We've both just had very similar nightmares about a specific neighbour getting into our house to spread Covid. It's the nosy neighbour who hasn't been following the lockdown guidelines all year. My nightmares have been much more aggressive than my wife's though.
