Yeah it's a crazy price and it's not meant for the mainstream. But it's actually a very clever move because it's tackles the issue of PS4 spec migration as it is designed to 'say' the hardcore play on this console.

I'm not an expert FPS player, what is the core purpose of this? I understand you can physically customise it the way you want so it feels better. And the design means it responds to button movements quicker? Which I understand split-second timing is important if playing to win. My questions are if there is so much room for customisation doesn't this mean that if you don't know what you are doing you will put it together in a sub-optimal way? In light of button-remapping to make some moves easier, can it be used legally in competitions?

I would literally rather die than play an FPS with a controller.

I like the idea its not something id get. I think it should be less but then maybe its so niche MS have to charge more because its not expecting to sell a lot of them?

Literally. Better to die a PC Übermensch than live a peasant.

I can see where the price comes from, they're making this in response to the popularity of Scuf Controllers (and other MLG pads) https://scufgaming.com/shop/scufone/mlg-scuf-one/

There are those who'll happily drop $200 on a custom pad, and it makes sense for MS to try and give them something official.

Knowing GAME, I expect the pad to be available for less than £100 in no time at all. Amazon/ShopTo will probably do £110 at launch.

I want one, but it needs to be less than £100 for me to bite.

The thing is that third parties cannot create something like this for Xbox One as they cannot integrate the app that controls configurations for it the same way into the system. So in respect of console gaming it has no competition and they can charge whatever the hell they want for one.

So if we handed Karl a pad to play halo or something he would kill himself?

Or I would simply not play?

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I think a controller's fine for any single-player FPS "adventure". Especially if it involves vehicles, because driving with a keyboard is like... Well, you might as well just sit down and eat a plate of human gooseberry fool.

That's why you leave the controller plugged in and pick it up for driving bits

And gooseberry fool yourself if anything causes it to rumble while it's on your desk.

I'm sure they are all devastated. :fp:

It's just ridiculous for someone to try and present themselves as one of the best at something whilst using completely the wrong tools for the job. It would be a like claiming to be a professional runner and walking up to the starting line in hiking boots.

That's not really true. I'm there are pro gaming tournaments that use consoles to play. If you are a pro gamer playing on a console, you'd look pretty stupid trying to use a keyboard and mouse (I guess unless you are playing UT3 on a PS3 or something).

Playing an FPS with a controller is a bit like playing the drums with two cucumbers: if you're a good musician it would probably still be OK, but it's obviously just not going to sound as good as if you were playing properly.
