Just bought tickets to go see the Lion King again in June for my girlfriend's birthday. Thinking about making it a bit of a theatre weekend - Anyone got any other recommendations for a show to see on the Friday evening?
Just seen that War Horse and Matilda are coming to Birmingham in the next 18 months, so it's going to be a pretty good time for local theatre too!
EDIT: I'd love to see the Philanthropist, but I'm not sure that'll be her speed. Guess the "safe" option might be Wicked...

I'm going to say Book of Mormon but based on your post I'm going to guess that's probably not for you. It really is amazing though.
I think my wife and I will be taking a trip to London soon too see a show. There are still lots we haven't seen but I know I definitely want to see BoM a second time.

Once again Butterfly was divine. Booked a box at the Opera House for Turandot in July. That should be heavenly. Lots of stuff coming up that I fancy.

BANANAMAN THE MUSICAL IS COMING.
Starts from the 15th of December at the Southwark Playhouse.
Really hope they get the humour right in this, because it could be fantastic.
The Southwark Playhouse is a tiny theatre, though. Will need to try and book some tickets ASAP.

This is 29 Acacia Road. And this is Eric Wimp. He’s a schoolboy who leads an amazing double life.
For when Eric eats a banana an amazing transformation occurs. Eric is Bananaman: Ever alert for the call to action.
With supervillains Doctor Gloom and General Blight attempting world domination, who can we call?
Superman’s on holiday. Spiderman’s not picking up. Our only option – our very, very last option – is Bananaman.
Bananaman, the Man-of-Peel, is a unique member of the superhero ranks. This handsome hero may have a jaw line you can see from space and sport the snazziest of tight lycra outfits, but he’s also got “the muscles of 20 men and the brain of 20 mussels.”
(Which isn’t much.)
With a useless hero and some equally clueless villains, Bananaman’s winkingly clever, delightfully silly humour has been sealed into the memories of those who saw him first, and will now spark the imagination of a new bunch of Bananafans.
It won’t be long before we all peel the power of Bananaman!

Just downloaded a few new soundtracks - Nabbed the 2016 Half a Sixpence recording (Emma Williams ) and the new Wind in the Willows musical.
Wind in the Willows is actually a really good show. I think it's sort of spoiled by the fact that people obviously think it's a "kids show", but they haven't really written it that way. There's not much proper humour in there for the kids, so anyone taking children are going to have rather bored kids on their hands for a lot of the time
Had some proper fidgety little toerags on the row in front of us.
All the animals having regional accents is fantastic, too. It's a nice touch Glad they didn't go full Cats with the costumes, but it does make it a bit difficult to tell who's meant to be what animal.

Hamilton tomorrow! My friend who I'm seeing it with is in London tonight, and so he managed to get tickets for the show tonight, too. £190!

Oh my god Hamilton is good. The energy in that cast is fantastic. I didn’t realise it was such a heavily choreographed show, the ensemble is all over the place! You genuinely can’t tell it’s still in previews, everything is pretty much already flawless (even when James Madison dropped a prop he covered it without breaking character ) Can’t wait to go again in January to get a decent view of the whole stage. Row B of the stalls is not a good seat for my neck, though! So sore now.
School of Rock is pretty good, too. It’s amazing that it’s actually the kids playing (the professional band basically just put down their instruments and watch the show for the finale). Think you miss a few of the lyrics in the Matilda-style shouty-kid-chorus songs, but that doesn’t really matter.
