Went to see Rent last night (it was actually the "Rent: 20th Anniversary Concert", but it seemed to pretty much be the stage show with a live band on stage).
It was actually really good. I went into it relatively blind (literally all I knew was that it was all about gay people), but I ended up getting the soundtrack stuck in my head for the whole way home, which just shows how chuffing catchy it was.
Going to download the film version now, to see if it's any good. It's got Adam Pascal in (AKA the guy from Goyband), so I'm not hopeful.
The tubby guy from the ensemble was actually a really good singer. During Seasons of Love he pulls
that note out of nowhere. Just listen to the reaction. Ridiculous:
(his solo starts at 1:25)
Got really good seats as well, front row of the dress circle, slap bang in the centre (and right next to the aisle, so you've got side legroom
). Got the same seats again for Ghost next year, so I'm actually kind of looking forward to it now.
