FE are you using chalk? I would do that before straps.

Missed this. Chalk isn't allowed in my gym (or liquid stuff). I know, but it's the best equipped gym in town.

Anyone have any thoughts about the benefits of sitting at a bicep curl machine vs using dumbells? I always feel that machine targets the muscle a lot better than the dumbell, but had a really odd pain in my elbow that felt like an impact injury and slowly faded away after about 20 minutes.

There's a shade less than two stone between us. One day soon, our weights will merge in an unholy matrimony of awesome.

I remember a website where you put in a distance and a location and it planned a run for you. Anyone know it? Also wasn't there a running thread?

Map my run maybe? There is still one around.

Went swimming today for the first time in years, did 1.3k total but the pool was really warm which isn't conducive to a long swim.

Getting back into the gym after a few months of being a lazy gooseberry fool.
Packed the smokes back in and avoiding fast food like the plague.

Currently sat at around 17 stone. Just want to build up a bit of muscle.

Buzzing for you Falsey mate, good to see you looking healthy!

Have got a huge build up of fluid on my right knee. Fell awkwardly at football a few weeks ago and although the bruising (which seemed way too much for what happened) has cleared, a lot of fluid remains. Really weird sensation poking it...

I think it should just go down but I'll probably go get it checked out if it hasn't by next week.

Had it loads of times with my bad knee, make sure you ice it a few times a day and take some anti inflammatories. There are some physio exercises that can help but without knowing the injury I'd be wary to suggest them for fear of making it worse. If you've had it for a while I'd go and see a sports injury physio over a GP if you don't mind paying, otherwise ask to be referred to an NHS physio - this might take a while though.

Cheers for the advice.

It's been two weeks since the injury. As I said, there was loads of bruising that was extremely sensitive so I've only really noticed the fluid over the last few days as the bruising healed.

I'll get on icing it and taking anti-inflammatory for a few days and see how how that goes.

Went for my first run in ages today (i've just been playing five a side football for my fitness for the last month or two) and boy do I feel shattered now. I always thought I was more tired after football until I just went for fifteen minutes or so of just running rather than telling my team mates to do it for me. :dread:

Depending on the organization hes more middleweight/super middleweight :D Im around 75 myself. Been doing a lot of running the last 8 weeks or so in prep for this 10k on Saturday and for the first time ever I actually weighed in at just under 12st. But of course after all that now im starting to feel sick 3 days before the run and a week and a half before I go on holiday :x

I weighed myself today and I'm 74.4kg. Re the boxing thing, I thought over 76.2kg was into the heavyweight divisions in all the bodies? Bear in mind I'm getting my info from Wikipedia :shifty:.

Still training for my Wolf Run. Did 4km the other day in just under 19 minutes. Wasn't too difficult but incredibly dull. I think I need to get outside running in the park etc. I just really prefer lifting weights.

Awww yis. Doing dips with a 10kg dumbbell gripped n my legs seems to have bumped my bench weight up. It's been stuck a while now.

Cuban Pete wrote:You won't be doing the race on a treadmill so really don't train on one!! Get out in the terrain, off the paths, up hills, through woods and fields. If you do 4km at around 22 minutes on that then that'd be good going.

There is a slight issue here in that I live slap bang in the middle of Birmingham. Hills, woods and fields aren't exactly ten a penny . There is a good and large park about a half an hour walk away, though. Would be good to jog there then run around it and jog back.

Do I need to work on anything else? Chin ups, wall climbing etc?

Pretty much where I want to be on chest and shoulders. Arms are a lot bigger now too just need to focus on abs

120kg DL done. Was difficult and almost thought I was going to drop it, but didnt want everyone in the gym to turn around and see me failing so just pulled it up. Doing 100x6 sets which was another goal. Next one to hit is 140, which is a 3 plate, then Ill feel like a big boy.

Started on unassisted pullups about a month ago, couldnt do one on the easiest grip, forget what its called. Now Im doing 4 wide gripped, 5-6 scruffy form. Goal with those is 3 sets of 10 with good form, might take a few months.

After hitting 75 the other week Ive spent about 4 days with the most tremendous gut rot, dropped back down to 72.5 but leaned out a bit.

Still moving up though, so happy.
