Wanted to change my programme up a bit as I was finding one of the days a bit unfulfilling and it's been 6 months now so a good time to change things up. I found this https://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/4-day-power-muscle-burn-workout-split.html 4 day split which has most of the lifts and exercises that I like but ads a bit more for triceps which I feel I've been lacking.

I just wondered what people think? I tried the shoulders and tricep workout today and it was pretty good, I'm just not keen on the high rep low weight stuff. Don't get me wrong, 2 sets of 40 lateral raises was a killer but I didn't find it particularly rewarding. I like to keep the weights higher and reps to 5-8. Would I be missing the point of the programme if I just reduced the reps?

yes - pick a programme and stick to it for 3 months before you go modifying stuff

I want to dips, wide pull ups and potentially press ups so I will.change it slightly.

Also, do any of you do French press regularly?

While I'm still eating *actual foods* for breakfast, the supplement (and the fact I lost half a stone in May which has me even more motivated) has helped me get rid of my fear of not taking on board enough food in the morning and so I've cut my breakfast by about half. I'm kind of fearing that's too drastic a calorie cut, but the fact is I've not felt it hamper my morning workouts, nor do I feel extra hungry post-workout and so I'm not overeating then, either.

Yup, I think I've turned into a supplement split

Try Creatine. Cheap and absolutely works. Makes the recovery between work sets so much easier.

dont bother with that loading bollocks - 1-2tsp a day with a flavoured drink to wash it down (tastes disgusting).

Ta for the tips!

Could you link me to a specific one, please?

I spoke with some buff bloke who works in Holland and Barrett and got an all in one powder. It's fairly expensive but has protein, creatine monohydrate, BCAA's among a load of other stuff.

Also, are you just skipping breakfast to lose weight?

Nope. When I'm working away from home I'll have a cup of oats and a large can of tuna. When working from home I'll have half a cup of oats and a small can of tuna.

problem with all in ones is you cant adjust ratios etc and they normally cost a load. convenient yes but not by much.

What will you typically buy?

Also I finished the 4 day workout that I posted. I'm not sure I like it as much as the heavy weight, low rep plan I was doing but I'm in a lot of pain. The burn sets make it feel more like the interval training I was doing without all the high impact exercises.

I've heard creatine can cause hair loss/thining, and given the evidence of one person I went to school with, I am likely to believe this...

Have any of you guys had issues with creatine like that?

what? no chance
the only correlation would be that increased testosterone may lead to an increase in DHT which may lead to thinning or balding, but if youre worried about that then dont try anything that will raise your testosterone levels, i.e. lifting weights and gaining muscle

Do any of you lot get tendinitis in your elbows? If so do you just rest? Stretch more? Do different exercises?

I'm almost certain it's golfers elbow as it usually comes on after playing golf but I'm really not sure what brings it on so it's difficult to change up my workout.

I had a bit of a shock the other day when I measured myself using these fancy scales. Around 2-3 years ago I was something like:

75kg
13% body fat

I am now:

73kg
23% body fat

strawberry float  :fp:

I spend too much time working and when I'm not working I spend too much time out drinking and eating disgraceful food.

I sort of think I just need to accept that life has got in the way and won't be moving aside any time soon. But also I don't want to be a fat gooseberry fool.

Are you still training? Don't be too hard on yourself, being crushed at work makes it difficult to stay healthy.

Forgot I posted that.

It has got to me a bit. In fact it wasn't even just 23%, it was 23.9% :fp: I've trained hard this week and tried to eat more sensibly.

Just going to measure myself again...

72.25kg
23.5% body fat

Possibly a small improvement, although I'd prefer to get my ~7kg of muscle back :(.

I'm trying to keep it up. Who would have thought that getting married, starting a new job, selling one home and buying another all within 4 months of each other would be so distracting :shifty:. It's the alcohol I really need to cut down on.

Just checked the stats on my first and most recent measurements. Apparently 0.3kg of the loss is muscle, with 0.45kg of it being fat. Can't say I'm exactly thrilled to be losing muscle at two thirds the rate I'm losing the fat :|.

Yeah I think it's worse when you've gotten to where you want to be and you let yourself slip. It must make it easier knowing that you can get back there though?

We have a well being machine at work at the moment so I decided to give it a go. I used it in when it was here in October and was 80kg with 19.8% body fat, I'm now 83Kg 17.3% body fat. Pretty chuffed with that, I'm going to just ignore BMI though :slol:

That's the dream, increase weight, decrease body fat. Congrats!

You can absolutely ignore BMI if your body fat is under ~20% IMO.
