Give wrist grips a try if you haven’t already, I’ve had to use them for many lifts for years since tearing my ligaments in both wrists. Cheap set from amazon for a fiver with good reviews should help massively.

2 days of drinking and skipped gym on Friday (last session was Wednesday).

Then just did 3x5 100KG bench press easily and without a spotter and on a bench rack I hate (safety rails are too high and can't be adjusted). Felt so easy I could have done another set.

Funny how that works. Haven't benched heavy in a while but good to do 125% of bodyweight.

Did you eat a load of rubbish? I always feel strong as gooseberry fool after a weekend of McDonalds and the like. Great bench press numbers though man, I'd stick to drinking if it had that effect.

Yeah it really is. To have actually passed was a great feeling, now it's time to fight, although that probably won't be until next year now because work are being dicks about shifts.

Friday and Saturday breakfast was the same. 2 fried eggs in toasted wholemeal bagel.

I get insanely good (free) lunches at work. Friday was Ox Tail, Rice and Peas (kidney beans), Plantain and some veggies.

Friday dinner was 4 pints. And midnight chicken soup as had nothing else at home.

Saturday lunch was the rest of the soup and then a few crackers with peanut butter / biscoff spread. Went to Honest Burgers for a burger, wings and chips and had an IPA and Guinness.

Both nights involved less than 6 hours sleep too.

Got 2 more drinking based social events for next Friday and Saturday so maybe will have to keep it up. :slol:

Phone fell over at the end of filming. :fp:

Chris Hemsworths physique in that film is so strawberry floating amazing it makes me want to actually just give up and be a fatass cause its like, how can you ever compete with that? Like no homo, well some homo, but strawberry floating hell how do you even get that jacked? Its got to be some kind of roids, right? Make me feel better about my pathetic bench by telling me hes yoked out of his mind on roids. But credit where its due holy gooseberry fool that dude is insanely built.

Have you watched any Buff Dudes videos? They have a while series of doing the workouts various actors have done for roles. I've watched and read a fair bit about it and I think you have to remind yourself that these guys can train for a couple of hours twice a day, have personal trainers, nutritionists, chefs, etc to put 100% focus into the look they're trying to achieve. Also they'll obviously get pumped before certain scenes so it's not exactly they're natural physique. I watched a Hugh Jackman training video and he talks about having to dehydrate himself for two days to get the super low body fat look for a single scene. I know what you mean though, these guys look strawberry floating awesome and it does seem unattainable for the average person. I actually think it's the food more than anything, they must eat 3 chickens a day.

I'm actually in the process of arranging a personal trainer as I'd really like to be pushed to see exactly what I can achieve. I'm getting married in October so have that as a personal goal to look as good as possible. Also I'm close to the point of having to get the clippers out as getting thinner on top and it would make me feel better about it :shifty:

I bet most people in here have a man crush on at least one of the Marvel superheroes.

Managed to deadlift 110kg today, did it a while back but recently found myself stuck at about 100kg again. So nice to break that barrier. But good grief I was knackered for the rest of workout

I always assumed there was some kinda steroids going on tho just to have that much muscle but still have a 6 pack. I never considered them dehydrating or getting a pump before scenes.

Sounds lie you need to go full Statham! Shave the fading glory and get shredded. I wish id done that before i got married. Well, i did the hair part, but neglected the extra 4 stone i was carrying around on me at the time

The Chris Hemsworth one is basically all arms and they say it's probably what he does to get a pump for the scenes he's wearing armour. The Henry Cavill one looks really hard but then you have the Dwayne Johnson workout which even those guys struggle with.

Funnily enough I had a night out with friends recently and they commentated on noticing I was a lot bigger with one saying that I looked like Statham to point out the hair as well . I'm strawberry floating certain Creatine is to blame :shifty:

If you're getting paid millions to be a superhero actor and you need to have a certain look, 100% certain that your personal trainer is going to hook you up with steroids and you as the actor who needs to gain 15KG of good quality muscle in 3 months will hop on board.

Actors like The Rock will piss hot for juice. No one's gonna care because he's not in a sport. The Rock is hired because he's The Rock.

Obviously they'll put the hard work in too and nutritionists will be controlling their diets to a clinical level but going Super Saiyan is the real Hollywood secret. The bullshit is being told: lucky genetics, top diet and dedication to the gym are the only reasons. You simply can't make those high quality gainz in that short a time and you don't look like The Rock without high Test and Tren.

Netflix documentary: Bigger, Stronger, Faster. Well worth watching.

Is it possible to take steroids safely? Presumably the Hollywood people aren't getting them from the twitchy bloke I'm the gym car park.

Maybe I'm naive buy I do like to believe some of them are doing it properly. My only doubt is the videos I've watched of national power lifters who really aren't that big but lifting very heavy weights. That said there are a couple of body builders at the gym who are jacked but don't lift that heavy but do an insane number of reps.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy is medically prescribed.

You just find a celebrity doctor willing to prescribe more than a natural level of replacement.

You then have pharmaceutical grade Testosterone, your endocrinologist doctor will be regularly monitoring your health, blood pressure, cholesterol and hormones etc to ensure you are coping with it.

Nutritionist is likely to have you eating super clean too, so will also minimise the side effects.

There are drugs which prevent your balls shrinking and also drugs which prevent your estrogen spiking. Once you come off the steroids, the endocrinologist will be putting you on other drugs to restart your internal hormone system.

It is absolutely possible to minimise the risks (often overstated) of short term and long term usage of steroids.

In terms of "strong but don't look it" and "big but don't seem to lift heavy" that's because powerlifting training and bodybuilding training differ in volume vs intensity.

I am reasonably strong but don't look particularly muscular or impressive in physique given I overhead press 75% of my bodyweight for 3x5 and bench 125% for 3x5. 4x8 is more volume at a lighter weight but results in different adaptions to stress.

Totally agree with that GD post above. Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, etc are 100% popping for roids. They’re not necessarily even that bad if you know what you’re doing, as those guys' (trainers) will.

Thanks for that post GD, that's really interesting. Surely the must be some exceptions, look at the shape people like David Haye and Cristiano Ronaldo are in.

Personally I can't see the harm in actors using if it's safe. I guess we'll find out the king term effect in the next 10-20 years.

Steroids were sometimes prescribed to AIDS patients as it prevents muscle wastage. They're quite well understood compared to other illegal drugs. You can literally walk into pharmacists in Greece, Thailand, Mexico etc and buy over the counter. Would be great if more research was done but it's somewhat chicken and egg.

We already have plenty of 1980s actors (Arnie and Stallone) who were taking juice for decades long and seem to be doing okay. They were taking juice without anywhere near as much knowledge amongst users, before the Internet and probably before many doctors knew much about them too.

Actors like Bale, Jackman, Hemsworth will be using no where near as much as Arnie would have been. Regular Testosterone is relatively harmless, the oral steroids will wreck your liver in the long run and something like Tren will be too extreme.

Football on the whole doesn't seem like a sport where lots of steroids would help but even doing TRT at normal amounts would ensue that no matter how little sleep you got, or alcohol you drank, or shite you ate, you are getting consistently controlled releases of Test.

Haye and Ronaldo have great genetics and I could believe they're both natural but I wouldn't be surprised either to learn they took something. Armstrong was the best in the world and beat all the tests, we only know he cheated because he admitted to it. Designer steroids with short half lifes and infrequent testing means you can cheat and get away with it.

Footballers would probably benefit more from blood doping than steroids.

Would it be a stretch then to say that the current Hollywood actors are using steroids/TRT more like a supplement as opposed to the monster body builder stereotype that everyone associates with roid heads? Is the difference steroid abuse as opposed to responsible usage.

In other news, went to the gym tonight after 4 twelve hour night shifts on the bounce so about 12 hours sleep since Saturday afternoon, drowning in my snot from some mild cold/hay fever bull gooseberry fool yet managed to personal bests. Sport is weird.

You squat more you deadlift? Do you train one and not the other? Injuries?

Professional bodybuilders are likely always on something with peaks in the off season and before competition where the amounts increase. Probably just on a high dosage of Testosterone for years at a time and peak with 4 different things being used for the months at a time. "Blast and Cruise".

Where as actors would more likely come fully off after filming and let the body return to homeostasis and go through post cycle therapy.

You'd assume higher levels of the stuff for longer periods of time would lead worse health outcomes. But risk vs reward, there's only one Mr Olympia each year and they all want to win.

Sounds like your gym session was similar to my bench press story.

Nice one man.

Do you guys mostly just do compounds or do you add isolation stuff in as well?

I would imagine there are two sides to it, one being the competion and desire to win and the more sinister side of body building with the insecurities and body dysmorphia, paranoia that lead to people pushing boundaries.

It is weird though, everyone must have a story of looking forward to training after a good night's sleep and eating well throughout the day yet having a rubbish session. Then you get the alternative of having an awesome session after a booze filled weekend wth minimal sleep and eating junk food. Personally the only thing I can see in myself is the fact I haven't trained which probably says I should manage my off days better.
