Difficult to put anything in writing because it'll always be partly guesswork. Our operating costs have been something like an average of £12m more than our income for a few years now.

There have been signs of trouble for quite a long time, with player wages being paid late and allegedly other staff too, but there must be something else big in the background because this year it's rapidly gone from a vague concern, skirting the edges of FFP to this existential crisis. I guess it could just be the pandemic, as we've always been able to rely on large attendances and the income that comes with that, which of course has been missing for a long time now.

I suppose another outcome could be that we go down, Morris is forced to write off everything or see the club fold so he chooses the former, sells to the new owner and we then just take the FFP punishment in League One and probably face relegation to League Two. At least then we could start afresh in 2022/23, maybe? I'm not sure, I don't really know exactly how it all works.

Do a Bolton you mean? I think that's what happened to them.

£12m operating costs above revenue in the Championship is astronomical. You're basically relying on a big money transfer to the PL every couple of years just to breakeven and thats unrealistic.

Some years back with Martin, Russell and Hendrick up front, Derby were one of the best teams in the Championship and promotion bound.

How times have changed.

I'd argue that's what championship teams need to do and in some cases, do do

Forest have definitely done it in recent times and likely to again this season I'd say with Joe Worrall the likely sale for c.£8-10m to Burnley or Norwich by all accounts.

We sold Matty Cash  to Villa last season for £14-16m. Before that it was Arvin Appiah (£8m to some Spanish side), Ben Brereton (£7m to Blackburn), Oliver Burke (£13m to RB Leipzig). Yes it probably reflects the poor cost management by the powers that be, but it also enabled, in our case anyway, to buy a shitload of players for a new manager every transfer window on inflated wages.

Brentford have also sold 1 player each season haven't they although not necessarily for the same reasons. Maupay to Brighton, Watkins to Villa and rumours Toney to Chelsea this summer.

It's gooseberry fool.

The lack of sustainability in football these days is one of the reasons I don't really follow it anymore. Fuckwit owners running historic clubs into the ground on a gamble on having a good season with no plan for the future. And it's all because that one good season brings in hundred million quid. And there are probably 10-15 other clubs doing exactly the same thing for 3 promotion places.

I'd be very suprised if Derby just immediately folded. The amounts being talked about don't seem to be the worst I've heard for this sort of thing. Hell Bolton survived, if they can survive, Derby definitely can.

Massive game today for Derby though. Win and stay up, lose and go down regardless of what happens in Rotherham’s match with Cardiff. Good luck Ob :(

Cheers Cora. And a big thank you to the Conservative Party for ensuring that no matter what happens on the pitch today, it won't be the worst thing about this weekend .

The fact it's still in our hands after the run we've been on is pretty wild. It'll feel desperately unfair on Wednesday and Rotherham if they do both end up going down. If I was a neutral (and if we didn't have the whole 'potentially not going to exist anymore' thing going on) I'm sure I'd be supporting them over us.

DML, I'll take your optimism on that. I know for a fact I'll have been reading exaggerated posts on the forums etc so hopefully you're right.

I thought Waghorn had literally killed himself there for a second. Genuine wave of sickness ran through me from the sound of the collision, which fortunately turned out not to be his head.

Nothing against Wednesday or Rotherham but rooting for Derby today.

Serious question for Ob, why isn't Rooney one of the subs? You can have about a million these days and even on one leg he must be better than some on the bench.

Yeah, I feared the worst. He looked out cold at first I thought.

How’s your nerves? Sky reporting Rovrum are bossing their game and should be leading by more than just 1

Considering SW have to win no matter what, and you currently have to too, this is a pisspoor game

The last few games he played he was very clearly holding the rest of the team back. He must have had a rough lockdown because before that he was easily our best player.

I've had us down for weeks so it all just feels like it's going as expected. The only reason we still have a chance is because of a bizarre run of results from the other two teams.

1-0 now anyway and Rotherham bossing their game. We need a lot of luck to score one goal let alone two.
