I had no idea that some tariffs had a cap on hotspot data.

Are there any uncapped hotspot tariffs? I'd imagine people would use uncapped ones as an alternative to actually getting broadband in their homes if they lived in a good 4G area. With a good 4G signal I get 50Mbps+ on my phone.

The thing I most want to know about the S8 is the price. Have any real pricing details come out yet?

why can't just launch the 'note 8' at the same time :<

I don't want to wait until August again!

Surely the Note brand is dead after the Note 7?

I'm expecting the Note 8 device will be renamed to 8 Pro/Stylus etc. Phablets are too popular for Samsung to kill the brand entirely.

perhaps the name will be different, but as David said phablets are far too popular and without sounding too much like a fanboy - Samsung do make the best. (when they get the battery tech right :fp:)

more heat than light wrote:So a few months ago I mentioned I was tempted by the Moto Z. Most people seemed to think that it wasn't the best choice, and a OnePlus 3 would be a better option, which seemed sensible after I'd checked the specs.

However the Moto Z is now £299 at John Lewis, a whopping £200 off RRP.

Surely that's a hell of a lot of phone for that price, right? Properly tempted.

Finally grabbed one of these at £298 with free speaker mod included direct from Motorola. I know this phone hasn't been particularly successful since the price has crashed pretty quickly, but for the spec I can't fault it at that price. Hopefully I'll get £50 for the speaker on eBay too.

My son shattered the screen on his OnePlus Three. :fp:

Did a few searches round the internet and it seems that normal repair places charge £150 - £200 :dread:

Contacted OnePlus and after sending the phone to them (actually to their service place in Poland) it will "only" be €95.18 to repair. But then the nonsense begins, the only way of paying them is through a bank transfer! What utter nonsense. Of course, can't do this online as it is a non UK bank account (and even if I could pay it, can't choose payment currency). So now I have to go to the bank to arrange a transfer. What utter BS.

Probably should have put this in the moaning thread, but useful lesson for anyone with a OnePlus - don't break the strawberry floating screen unless you enjoy hassle.

It's so bad. After getting my S7 edge screen replaced last month it's now shattered again falling about a foot despite being in the official £40 case. It's not the money as much as it is the faffing around needing to go the bloody post office.

It's shocking that something that is so expensive is so utterly feeble. Are there any phones on the market with a strong screen?

There's only so much strength to be expected out of an 8mm thick computer. I've never cracked a screen in all my years of smartphone ownership, and I never use a case. If you're clumsy enough to break the same phone twice just stick on one of those thick as strawberry float cases with the built in screen cover.

I've never cracked a screen before this so you can strawberry float off with your clumsy comment. The official case is clearly useless, my m8 case got some abuse and it was always the case that went rather than the phone.

I like the dex feature, looks more or less the same as the s7 edge though. I mean they talk about more screen and no bevel, but the edge was kind of like that anyway.

Hmmm, tempted by a staff offer at work.
£47/month for handset only Samsung Galaxy S8+ over 12 months.

That works out at £564 for the handset.

Do you get to keep the handset at the end of the 12 months?

Yes. Just need to find out if it's sim-free or locked. For the price, I'm suspecting locked, but you never know.

Damn, it's only that if I get a SIM with it, but I don't want to lose my Unlimited data with 3.
Might have a look at the Samsung upgrade programme.

Sod it, ordered an S8+ on the Samsung Upgrade Program.
Sadly though it looks like I've missed the early shipping for pre-orders, as my order says expected to ship on 28th April
