Yeah, I read something like that too and another one about him inhaling poisonous fumes, hence him being unconscious when he hit the wall (is that true?). Some pundits seem to think Honda are covering something up.
Anyway, I feel this may be significant; laps and mileage from pre-season testing, by manufacturer:
Engine constructor
1. Mercedes 3996 laps 18,378km
2. Ferrari 2427 laps 11,132km
3. Renault 2149 laps 9886km
4. Honda 380 laps 1751km
Renault supplied more teams last season (Lotus have switched to Merc) and recovered from a horrible mess in testing, whereas Honda don't have that.
I can't see McLaren being anything other than a shambles this season. As my friend said, Alonso missing the first race probably won't matter too much cause he'd probably not get any points anyway.
