Why do people throw this lazy argument about? Such a bullshit cliche. F1 does have characters and a range of them as well. Vettel, for example, is extremely funny. I think the sport itself is to blame if you feel we don't see enough character in the drivers.

Anyway, the Ferrari engine seems a huge improvement over last season and Kimi has said the new car is a "whole different story" to last season. Really hope they, amongst others, can challenge Mercedes. Can't bear the thought of another two-horse race.

Alonso will be kicking himself if Ferrari have actually developed a decent car.

In defence of floydfreaks point, you hardly get to see much of each drivers personality throughout a race weekend. When interviewed at the track they all seem to say the same things as if reciting a list of answers given to them from the PR people. Only in the drivers conference and team-radio do you really get much of an individuals personality shining through and not many actually watch the former.

Edit: Looks like Marussia might make it after all.

I hate this time of year. It's when I spend months with hope and promise and then come March whichever team I'm backing let me down.

Looks like they just added a shitload more weight to the car.

Have cars not been getting narrower and pointyer for the last 30 years? What would be the benefit of adding all that extra carbon fibre (Is that what F1 cars are made of?), any aero benefit would surely be negated by the extra weight.

Anyone going to a GP this year? Was looking through my Monza photos at the weekend and it had me hankering to go to another, briefly looked into Abu Dhabi in 2013 but other things came along. Reckon it could be back on the cards this year if an interesting season is set up.

I'm not sure on the exact benefits, but one of the upcoming rule changes is for the cars to get wider again. I imagine it would be quicker around corners at least.

Why make the cars wider, just makes it harder to overtake.

Not sure if.

A wider car gives you more mechanical grip.

As for the extra body work, it's a concept to show that other things can be done beyond strawberry floating with noses every year. If the bods that make the rules get inspired to loosen things up and allow cars to have a bit more creative freedom in them then maybe f1 wouldn't lose a genius such as Newey who's leaving because there's sod all innovation with the rules being so restrictive.

I see the FIA want to ban all the changes in helmet art design throughout the season. I have to say I really support that, I'm sick of all these stupid designs and it makes it so much easier for the spectators if the drivers have the same helmets all year.

Granted they won't be able to do the charity stuff, but this is purely about improving the experience for the fans and viewers in my opinion. Since you can't see the car numbers easily anymore, and since the old ID markings on the cars are a thing of the past (Alesi's Ferrari had yellow spots etc) they need to do everything they can to make it easier to differentiate the drivers.

The charity stuff more than made it worthwhile. It was also interesting seeing the different designs when a driver updated their helmets, so banning the changes is decidedly meh as far as I'm concerned.

It is a pointless ban. They are just making rule updates for the sake of it.

This brings nothing of value and removes an element of creativity and a slim glimpse it's the personality of the driver.

I just think they want everyone in a Senna replica helmet.
