He should have just tried and just taken both of them out.

Totally disagree. You could define the whole of F1 as an unnecessary dangerous situation. Nothing Lewis did was in any way as dangerous as the decision to continue racing in Brazil in those conditions, but both led to an improved spectacle.

Nothing wrong at all with what Lewis did. It was a no brainer to try and back him into the pack. It's just strategy, other teams do it all the time to try and get one car ahead of another, it's just it happens in the midfield and you don't see it.

Still, bit of a joke with Rosberg as champion. He wasn't as good as Mark Webber was on my view and is now ranked alongside Raikkonen. I don't recall a season where a driver has been so utterly out performed by his team mate but won purely on reliability issues. Mercedes can't talk about repercussions for Hamilton as it was entirely their fault (or perhaps design) that he found himself in that situation.

What do you mean by that?

Rosberg ultimately ended up as champion because he has shown a mental toughness over the last 14 months that I think most of us (And I'm saying that as someone who has been more pro-Rosberg than most in here) didn't believe he had. He's made the most of his chances this season and did what he need to over the last few races to secure the championship even if it made for some outright boring races. We've seen plenty of drivers accept being the number two driver in a dominant team and it looked like Rosberg was falling into that role last year but he has battled back brilliantly this year against a driver most people accept is superior and earned the title. All this bullshit and sourness about him being an unworthy champion is pathetic.

Still hasn't overtaken Hamilton once.

I agree. There is no such thing as an unworthy champion.

I think a lot of people don't rate Rosberg and therefore think this championship must have been a fluke but F1 is littered with similar drivers, I remember a lot of people said the same about Button.

Not every champion can go down in history as a legend of the sport. Button and Rosberg are unlikely to ever be remembered in the same bracket as Hamilton, Vettel, or Alonso, but they were given the opportunity to win a championship and they got it done!

Yes. I would say that Rosberg's title is no worse than Button's (best car, just racing your team mate), Hill's (best car, just racing your team mate), Villeneuve (best car, racing no one), Raikkonen (McLaren couldn't get behind one driver so gave it away), Hamilton in 2008 (cheating from Renault took away Massa's win in Singapore which would have given him the championship). Those are just off the top of my head.

Jackie Stewart the former team boss and not the former world champion talking here

http://talksport.com/motorsport/listen- ... -race-2016

What a load of bollocks, the first few minutes show Jackie up to be a complete moron. If you listened to this you would never have thought that Jackie was ever a driver. Keeps saying you must be a team player, you must get the one two for the team, that's what matters. He called for Lewis to get a penalty by Mercedes. I'm glad most other drivers I've heard so far have backed Lewis.

He even praises verstappen daring driving style but calls Hamilton dangerous :fp:

Bear, I honestly believe Mercedes wanted Rosberg to win either consciously or unconsciously. Switching their engineering teams about during the off season seems highly suspicious in hindsight. The lure of having a German champion in a German team in the final year they could guarantee it seems quite enticing to me. Plus this is F1 with a history of shady goings on.

I'm probably more disappointed though that the season was so poor. I mean Hamilton and Rosberg felt like they only actually battled on track a couple of times. Viewing figures are down again apparently and the German GP is being cut. It's a worrying time.

Maybe Lewis should bugger off from Merc as well and leave them in the lurch.

Blimey!

I think we can guarantee Toto won't feel the need to discipline Lewis after all.

What the strawberry float!

There has to be more to this and I can't believe he would retire so suddenly at that age. I wonder if Merc have someone else lined up and needed to secure them immediately.
