Le Clerc not covered himself in glory today. I don’t think there was anything he could do about Vettel at the start, but he should have been able to stay closer to him, then in this final phase he should really be getting past Bottas and chasing up to Hamilton.

None of that is easy, but as the most exciting prospect in the sport (to me), that’s what I’d like to be seeing from him in races like this.

Albon should have got DOTD. From pit lane to 5th, and close enough to Verstappen to stop him getting a free pit stop

100%

How the strawberry float Vettel got it is beyond me. Well not really because Di Resta was blowing smoke up his arse for the entire race.

Didn’t see the issue with what Vettel did (in not switching places) as he comfortably extended the gap, if they were a second apart then fair enough but he didn’t stick with Vettel, who until hi car gave up on him was the faster of the two Ferraris. Also if they were dead set on switching them back, later in the race would have been a much more suitable time, rather than in the opening stage where they were trying to build a gap to the Mercedes. As it happens with Vettel’s power unit failure it turned from a strong chance of a Ferrari win into a Mercedes 1-2.

Don’t really see how, despite his cracking opening stint Vettel got the DOTD though, although he may well have got a few votes for his retirement radio clip where he said about bringing back the V12 engines and I do agree, while these current power units are amazing feats of engineering I’d happily go for a simpler engine with a better noise, cheaper to make so they could use more throughout the season as well, if they go ahead with qualifying races they’ll most likely need more engines anyway as I doubt 3 would cover 22 race weekends.

Ferrari ballsed this one up on my opinion. Vettel was quicker than Leclerc in the opening stint, swapping them wouldn't have made sense. You only do that if the driver behind is clearly faster. Then, to switch them back they waited until the pitstops, by which time the team had lost too much time to Mercedes.

The safety car was unfortunate when the car packed up, but Ferrari have to shoulder a big amount of blame for losing their time cushion.

Great drive from Hamilton, another race win where the opposition should have had it in the bag. Albon definitely should have been DOTD.

Ferrari's real idiocy was in agreeing a team order in the first place. Didn't seem necessary. But Vet should have given the place then taken it back if he wanted it that bad.

The only team orders the drivers should need are to not take each other out of the race, wonder how Ferrari will react to this in the coming races, if they still have the quickest car come the race of course.

It only seems to be Ferrari that tend to completely screw up when it comes to team orders. I bet if you looked back through history, generally their team orders would have been counter productive.

If Hamilton doesn't win the championship this season it could be the worst second half performance in history.

Amazing how slow that looks compared to modern F1. Look how heavy the steering is too.

Qualifying cancelled until Sunday morning probably makes sense for the spectators at the venue.

Depending on how things pan out, qualifying could be decided by FP2 today.

Chance for lesser teams to exploit the rules then if it's not decided that's the case before fp2 begins, as fuel loads can be whatever you like, as can tyre choice, plus parc ferme conditions. You could run on fumes with the softest tyre, with a setup totally unsuited for the race but geared to a single lap.

Well if the grid is decided by the FP2 results the Renault’s have massively underperformed down in 17th and 18th. I imagine qualifying will run as normal though, just delayed as we already know.

Another decent race.

More strange strategy by Mercedes. No way Hamilton finishes behind Vettel if he one stops. They obviously did not want to stitch up Bottas but didn't trust him to pass Lewis on track.

Ferrari being Ferrari at the start again, Mercedes capitalising on it once again, sounds like F1 is back to normal

Qualifying was good, genuinely delighted to see Vettel back on pole after his poor run in the past 9 races. Just a shame they didn’t have the race pace to back it up!

Not a bad race really though, do wonder if Mercedes playing it safe on a two stop (with Bottas in the lead) was to in part repay him for Singapore where they really hung him out strategy wise but he was the quicker of the Mercedes drivers this weekend. One thing that was poor was the stewarding, Vettel pretty much made the same starting error Kimi did in Russia and didn’t get penalised. Leclerc ruined Verstappen’s race at turn 2 and no penalty. Albon steamed up the inside of Norris into the chicane forcing him off the track and that wasn’t even investigated.
