I see Piquet has put out another statement. Does anyone here know Portuguese enough to know whether what he says could be true? I know in European languages, there can be different translations, but the only logical explanation I can think of for him to use that word, is if it was in relation to colour which isn't acceptable in any language. Is it really a colloquialism for "guy"?

If it wasn't for his vast wealth, he'd probably be in jail now as he was looking at corruption charges at one point only for him to pay an absolute fortune to simply make it all go away.

Ecclestone in being a despicable banana split shock horror. Why even give such a corrupt hateful prick a voice. Just put him in a home and leave him to rot.

I honestly think there is something medically wrong with Bernie. He's always had repugnant views, and done highly illegal stuff. I think now he has lost his faculties to the point that he can't even hide his views any longer.

I also think the EU and UK should be urgently looking into his financial deals he's made with Russia historically, or any interests he has there now. For a billionaire to kind of come back from obscurity to say this sort of stuff, either he has some serious mental degradation or he has a financial interest to support Putin.

And we are supposed to be putting sanctions on financial benefactors or beneficiaries of Putin.

Alex Albon's new helmet design is brilliant.

That design from Albon is great!

On Bernie, his comments earlier really don’t surprise me, he’s always seemed the kind of guy to say whatever to actually get into the news (again), regardless of how true she’s actually being. I’m not saying his comments about Putin aren’t true, but it’d not surprise me if he doesn’t actually like him that much.

Been playing a bit of F1 22 and so far it’s pretty good, there’s a weird couple of glitches (one graphical where there seems to be almost a ghostly image behind each car, another where the FFB on my wheel seems to cut out when I’ve pressed pause and cuts back in after a second). The cars are a handful though, a lot of fun to drive, I still have next to no confidence in the F2 cars and having driven half a lap with the super cars I’ve come to the conclusion already they’re awful  I’m happy having paid £35 for it, no way is this worth £80 though

Yeah played a bit of F1 '22 myself thanks to the 10 hour trial. Gotta say it's actually all right. The vapid "f1 life" gooseberry fool can get in the bin. And the first thing I want to do when loading an F1 game, believe it or not is not to choose a supercar for my hipster crib. strawberry float off.

On another note did a quick 3 lap race of Miami in the Merc, the speed difference on the straights between it and the Ferrari is just bonkers.

One good thing about F1 life is that the menu’s actually look nicer than they did before where they were just tiles to choose from, it’s awful but has the very odd positive

I’ve just been doing plenty of 25% races, the Ferrari is the best car I’ve driven so far though.

How many of the other drivers he was talking about in derisory terms was he referencing by their skin colour rather than their name?

Anyway Verstappen has told the press that Piquet used the wrong word but is "definitely not a racist". :simper:

"I have spent a bit of time with Nelson, more than the average person, and he is definitely not a racist and he is also a pretty nice and relaxed guy. The statement he released, you can see the word in two ways but it is still better not to use it."

:simper:

Is anyone surprised? Red Bull are complete trash.

Williams and Alpine arrived with big upgrade packages to their respective cars (only on Albon’s car for Williams though), sounds like quite a few teams have brought upgrades this weekend though, imagine we’ll have seen the majority of upgrades by the start of the summer break.

Sky News - BREAKING wrote:Nelson Piquet used homophobic language against Lewis Hamilton in a podcast interview, it has emerged.

The three-time former world champion used the phrase on a podcast when describing how Hamilton missed out on the 2016 championship to Nico Rosberg.

He said of Hamilton: "The [racist term] must have been [homophobic slur] at the time. He was pretty bad."

They looked remarkably stable in FP1, granted it was wet for the most part but when Hamilton put slicks on at the end he didn’t look to be bouncing much at all. FP2 is dry though, so should get a better idea if their upgrades have worked or not.

Edit, 15 mins in and Hamilton is complaining about bouncing

Edit 2, as the session has gone on, the Mercedes has been showing quite a bit of pace, definitely in Hamilton’s hands anyway. The Williams update looks to be a really good step forward, Albon is about a second up on Latifi so far.

Qualifying underway in 20 minutes, looking like Verstappen is odds on considering his performance in FP3.
