Well at least F1 summer break hasn’t been dull this year,

Turns out someone basically faked having terminal cancer to get a free bit of merchandise and a factory tour from Mercedes. Aren’t people just lovely :fp:

It’s just a sure fire way of teams actively clamping down on gestures of goodwill, there will be people actually in his position, who’d probably love a factory tour but now might never get the chance. What are the teams meant to do as well if they want to help? Ask for a signed doctors note actually confirming they have what they claim to have?

Watched a rare Formula E race this morning and quite enjoyed it really! Red flag early on after about 5 cars all went off in the same corner, Vandoorne is in with a real chance at winning the title tomorrow as well, he’s leading by 21 points going into the last race so just needs to finish 7th (I think) or higher.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it Robbo! It was a bit of a slow burn race but that Red flag was really odd with those 8 cars all going off.

Finale is tomorrow morning. Evans looks strong at Seoul so Vandoorne can't just turn up and be gifted.

Won’t be able to watch the finale as I’m back at work :(

Will definitely be looking at the result at about 10 ish though!

F1 has blocked this from being embedded I think, but worth watching on YouTube...

Delighted for Vandoorne, he was really unfortunate to join McLaren when they couldn’t do anything right. His debut back at Bahrain 2016 was a solid drive that ended with him getting a point, considering the McLaren was pretty average that year, although unsurprisingly Alonso still dragged some results out of it. So its nice to see him finally get a chance to shine in some decent machinery, my main complaint about FE is still the tracks though, I do like the fact that city tracks allow for easier fan access but would it hurt things that much to throw in a couple of proper circuits, even if they run on shorter tracks for the purpose of regenerative braking. Sadly the F1 door will probably never reopen for Vandoorne, but he’s one of the few drivers who I’d loved to have seen in a half decent car at some point. A poor car for two seasons, up against Alonso was always going to be tricky.

Vandoorne's a decent driver who sadly ended up at McLaren during some of their shittest seasons. He deserves a chance to come back and it's a shame that is unlikely to happen.

Finally got round to watching the Schumacher doc on Netflix tonight, I thought the doc was pretty lightweight focussing on the human drama and the controversy rather than what made Schumacher so special as a racer, Spain 96 aside. Bit odd that Barrichello (particularly) and Massa didn’t feature at all. So sad to hear Mick say he’d give it all up just to be able to share his racing experiences with his dad :(

1998 was one of Schumi's best seasons.
