What's the likelihood he goes to Alpine then?

His only other options are Haas and Williams. I'd go with Alpine if they wanted me.

Or he could refuse all settlement proposals from McLaren and remain in a team who want him gone. Which would be a miserable experience.

Great idea and should see us through to F1 Manager in a few weeks.

Ah boo. I really like Riccardo racing with McLaren, and he has closed the gap to Lando in France and Hungary. But I can't shake the mounting evidence that the new style cars don't suit his driving style. I'd have seen out the contract with DR, but then, if you see him holding back your constructors placing then you need to be decisive.

Yeah Alpine are probably the best option for him, if he wants to continue of course and Alpine offer him a contract. I can’t see Haas changing their line up, Magnussen has done a great job so far and Schumacher is finally starting to have some strong and consistent performances. Haas are in a good position to play hard ball with Schumacher as well now as there’s not that many seats left for next year now, unless he’s in with an outside shot of the Alpine seat himself?

There’s 4 seats up for grabs if I’m thinking right? Probably one at Williams, definitely one at Alpine, one at Haas and one at Alfa Romeo as Zhou is on a one year deal? Suppose there could be one at Alpha Tauri if Red Bull go rogue and hire from outside their young driver pool for it.

Schumacher has definitely improved this season, early on he seemed to be overdriving the car which led him to keep crashing, but now he's settled down and has started to deliver some good drives.

The Ricciardo stuff is so harsh, I’m sure he’ll look back on leaving red bull as the worst call he’s ever made, but he’s never found a car he can drive like that one - shame as he seems like a good guy but he’s been done dirty on this one

I think he'd become fed up at Red Bull though, the car was more competitive sure, but he found himself having to deal with Max on a regular basis.

He’d seen the direction Red Bull were heading in, ie fully team Verstappen and thought a fresh team would be good for him. He was generally very good at Renault, finishing 5th in 2020, but for reasons thought it’d be a better move to go to McLaren which obviously just hasn’t worked out for him except the win at Monza last year.

In hindsight moving to McLaren was the mistake but nobody would have predicted that. He finished 5th at Renault when Ocon finished like 12th or something. He did great.

Hindsight really is a wonderful thing, he wiped the floor with Ocon in 2020. I don’t remember what I said at the time when he announced his move, but even with the benefit of hindsight, moving from a works Renault drive to McLaren does still feel like a sideways move, especially when considering the time it took him to get to grips with the car in 2019, being up against Norris, McLaren’s protege, he really needed to be on the same pace from day 1. Also in hindsight, his 2021 season wasn’t that bad compared to his current season and form (obviously got a win at Monza), which to put it bluntly is very poor, 4 points finishes against Norris 10 (with that including a podium and a fastest lap).

Just seen this pop up on Twitter too, not sure how many of us on here actually got F1 22 but I’d still be up for the odd race when cross play is fully implemented!

Played another couple of hours of F1 this evening, mainly just trying career mode setups in time trial after the handling update. Reckon I’ll probably end up starting yet another career mode when I get back around to it, maybe at Williams till I win the WDC/WCC with them. Definitely going to be doing 16 races though, can get rid of all the rubbish tracks that way, or the ones I’m woefully poor at

I feel bad for Riccardo. I think the Mclaren is a patchy car and to be fair he has their only win in their current era. I don't think they have really done much to help his confidence.

Staying at RBR would have been a bad move unless he wanted to be Webber Mk 2. The move to Renault wasn't a bad shout as Renault used to always eventually get success, but they seem to have settled for being a midfield team. That's why I suspect Alonso is moving as he can see there won't be any progress in his remaining years.

Mclaren looked to be genuinely improving after the Honda disaster, but their progress has really stalled too. Its a real shame as he was unfortunate to be around when one team were dominating and teams seemed to go for young hot shot drivers. He feels out of sync with the grid as he came in after the Hamilton/Vettel generation but just before Max/Leclerc/Norris etc.

I'd say the best prospect for Ricciardo would be to return to Alpine, they've been making steady progress and could well finish 4th in the standings this season if their luck holds out.

I’ll give that a watch later, I loved that episode of Top Gear when it was on so getting the full story should be good!

On Ricciardo, while I do feel a little sorry for him how his stint at McLaren has gone, its hard to feel too sorry for him in the grand scheme of things (or frankly, any of the drivers for my next point). From the sound of it, he’s going to be getting paid circa £20 million to potentially take early/temporary retirement. £20 million  Even if he doesn’t get a seat elsewhere its not like his career has been a disappointment either! Loads of podiums, 8 wins, been up against some stellar competition and been in the peak of motorsport for about 11 years should this be his last.
