IMSA & ACO Agree Route To Top Class Prototype Convergence
The most significant announcement of the modern era in Sportscar racing

IMSA and the Automobile Club l’Ouest have confirmed today that they have entered into an agreement that will bring the potential for both the ACO ‘Hypercars’ and the next generation of DPi machinery to compete together in a unified top class in races for both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and in the FIA WEC, including the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The agreement sees a small but potentially seismic shift in the timeline for introduction of the second generation of DPi machinery allowing full season second generation ‘DPi’ machinery (to be renamed LMDh) to compete in the full 2021/22 FIA WEC alongside the ACO-regulated Le Mans ‘Hypercars’ – Hypercar and LMDh will be able to race together in a single class, with Balance of Performance set to be used to provide a level playing field.

Let’s hope they get the balance of performance sorted for this when it’s introduced, I seem to recall it screwed Aston Martin over at then 24 hours of Le Mans last year so it’d be a shame if they messed it up again for this.

Crazy how close they let the fans get to the action in rally (still quite close these days), love it

Those rally days were crazy as they cars were basically F1 cars for rallying with the amount of horsepower they had. Those were the mental days of Motorsport

Been dipping in and out of the 24 hours of Daytona, missed the start (didn’t realise what time it started :fp:) and I missed the crash that caused the current yellow.

First caution was due to a crash in the pits

Ah ok, I just saw the damaged car and presumed there had been a collision on track rather than the pits.

2 stages to go in the first round of the WRC and there’s 6.5 seconds covering the top 3, going to be a tight finish.

Neuville wins the first WRC of the season, taking full points as he got all 5 from the power stage as well.

Daytona 24 hours 2020 records beaten

Two records were smashed in the Rolex 24 Hours that was interrupted by just six full-course cautions totalling 1 hour 43 minutes and 43 seconds (or 28 laps!).

The first is the overall distance record which stood at 808 laps before today and has now been upped to 833 laps (2965.48 miles).

Five first time IMSA sanctioned race winners put the total now above 1000 to 1002 with the first IMSA race wins for Ben Hanley, Henrik Hedman, Harrison Newey, Chaz Mostert and Andrea Caldrelli.

The longest consecutive period of green flag running was smashed too, that now stands at 7 hours and 48 minutes or 280 laps.

Another way F1 could learn a lot from other series, uploading the full race to their channel, even if its a couple of days later. I quite liked what I watched of the 24 hours of Daytona, still don’t think any other 24 hour race will grab my attention like the 24 hours of Le Mans though

I’ve also seen this evening that with the Coronavirus spreading across China that they will assess whether the Chinese Grand Prix will go ahead or not nearer the time. Still plenty of time to go before that but always better to be prepared.

I agree they should start uploading full races to their channel, though i can't see it happening soon with the current TV contracts preventing it & other motorsports have the same issue Indycar used to upload races on YT but when they went got a new TV contract they stopped, same with the V8 Supercars in Aus.

FOM should upload classic races but again what is preventing that is the F1TV paywall. Le Mans is a classic enduarance race world famous but i urge you too look up the Nurburgring 24 hours as that race is epic far better then Le Mans.

Bathurst 12 hours this weekend which will be shown live on Youtube and that is another endurance race which has become legendary since it became a GT3 race.

One of the best series for YouTube coverage is Indycar, they upload a 10 min highlight reel first, but if you wait a day or so, you get a much longer show to enjoy (which is always worth the wait).

I’m hoping when all the current deals run out that Bernie signed off they’ll be able to get much better ones in place, that will open the sport back up to a lot more fans (both new and returning ones).

Lawrence Stroll has also invested heavily into Aston Martin and news has come out this morning that from 2021 the team will be renamed Aston Martin rather than Racing Point. Hopefully that means we’ll get some British racing green back on the grid!

When jaguar took over from Stewart, British racing green was promised. However, the paint proved too heavy so the used a different green.
