I'd be surprised if Vettel wants a Renault seat, he's probably retiring. Hulkenberg would be my pick.

I doubt he wants the seat at Renault either, the team lived Hülkenberg and he’d prove a solid teammate to Ocon.

It’d be crazy if Vettel actually did end up at Mercedes or back at Red Bull, you get the feeling he does have something lined up though or surely he’d have announced his retirement after the initial news broke about not renewing his contract at Ferrari. Is Bottas only at Mercedes till the end of this year?

Yes Bottas is out of contract at the end of this year.

With Riccardo and Norris together with Mercedes Power it surely can only lead to huge potential for podiums next season

Ricciardo lucked out here. £50 million for probably one season's drive? Renault were completely taken to the cleaners.

Red Bull let Sainz go far too easily.

I presume Vettel must have been in contact about it then as he’s not announced he’s retiring yet, as I said earlier on, it’d make for a fantastic line up (although Hamilton would still have the edge over the season), I think it would be a long shot like him returning to Red Bull though.

Financially he’s smashed it these last couple of years (including this year in that), could easily take a pay cut to go to McLaren and still not have to worry one bit about money for the rest of his life.

The Mercedes power was probably one of the factors of him deciding to make the move anyway, if they were staying with Renault he might have decided to stick it out with them.

Far too easily, just like JEV as well in my opinion, they seemed to get obsessed with one of their current pool of drivers and then focus all efforts around them, granted it worked out superbly well with Vettel and has done to some degree with Verstappen. Ricciardo proving Sainz’s seat snatcher as well, first Renault and now McLaren, next up will be Ferrari.

This makes the politics in my household much cleaner, with myself a McLaren fan and my partner a Ric fan.

I swear that's the only team he's ever been happy at.

Regardless of the turmoil of this season is it unusually early for driver moves to get sorted this early for next season?

Ferrari looking into a possible Indycar 2022 team entry
https://www.autosport.com/indycar/news/ ... 1579085703

Ferrari Formula 1 team principal Mattia Binotto has admitted that the team is currently investigating the possibility of entering IndyCar, possibly as soon as 2022.

Days after racing icon Mario Andretti called on the Scuderia to consider entry into US open-wheel racing, Binotto admitted that both IndyCar and sportscar racing are under discussion at the team's Maranello base.

Ferrari being Ferrari, maybe a ploy to get some extra bargaining power in the next agreement, or maybe Ferrari branching out further than the WEC.

Ferrari need to be told by F1 to just bugger off.
They already have an amazing deal and get far more cash and bargaining power than any other team and they constantly threaten to walk away if that's in any way threatened. I think F1 will be fine without them and the available money can be spread more fairly and give smaller teams a bigger chunk.

I wonder if the indycar project, coupled with all the attention leclerc has been getting from doing esports has had a hand in the souring of negotiations. Hey Seb, why don't you do some esports and be down with the kids, then race in indycar on sabbatical year. I could see that being the sort of thing to make someone leave.

It’ll be interesting to see how the 1000+ people who are needed at the track to host the Grand Prix will be able to circumvent the UK’s 14 day quarantine rules......
