IMSA Announces Updated Return to Racing Plan

In a series of video conferences with stakeholders earlier today, IMSA revealed its plans to return to racing this summer with a revised 2020 calendar for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

The WeatherTech Championship will return July 4 at Daytona International Speedway. This Fourth of July event will feature an evening race with WeatherTech as its entitlement partner and a live television broadcast on NBCSN.

The Michelin Pilot Challenge will resume alongside the WeatherTech Championship at Sebring International Raceway on July 17-18. The WeatherTech Championship event also will be televised live on NBCSN.

Both event weekends will be conducted without fans in attendance.

"IMSA is grateful to all of our promoter partners for collaborating with us to develop a revised schedule of outstanding events," said IMSA President John Doonan. "Our No. 1 priority since March has been to get back to racing as safely and as quickly as possible, and this revised schedule is evidence of that. We appreciate the patience, cooperation, and input of our IMSA stakeholders, and we all are very much looking forward to going racing again this summer and putting on amazing races for our audience."

With America’s more relaxed approach to the pandemic in some regards I’m surprised they didn’t try and continue racing throughout, albeit without any fans in attendance. Still good to see things slowly getting back underway, let’s hope by June/July it isn’t a case of being too eager.

I’ve also been watching a bit of stuff about the F1 2020 game and I’m quite tempted by it to be honest, as I mentioned before 2017 is my most recent F1 game so this should certainly be a nice step up from that, I’m kind of waiting to see what platform to buy it for though, will this be a game where by users get a free upgrade to the next gen version? Codemasters haven’t said it’s going to be playable on the next gen consoles but then they both have backwards compatibility with the Xbox One and PS4 respectively don’t they so I’m also waiting to see which one of the PS5 and Xbox Series X tempts me more before making a decision either way.

Apparently Ferrari never even offered a contract to Vettel, obviously take with a pinch of salt.

Briatore think Alonso is ready to go back to F1 and would expect to sign with Renault.

I’ve seen and spoken about that work today, one rumour I saw was that it’d be Liberty who’d actually be footing his wage bill, so for Renault it would be perfect as they get a top driver for free. More a case of whether Alonso actually wants to come back to what is at best a leading midfield car.

I'm most excited about the new cars and seeing if they do indeed promote closer racing.
I also think they look quite a bit different and it'll be nice to see them all finally on track.

Just a shame we’ll be waiting for 2022 to see the new cars out on track :(

This was always a good track imo. Imagine if Heathrow or Gatwick held a grand prix

Would never happen now but it’d make loads more sense than having a race round the streets of London for example that’d cause bedlam.

Unless he’s lost a lot of his edge in his time away from F1, Ocon will probably get annihilated if this is true. Poor bloke

I have a feeling they may use closed roads in London but it would be interesting to see a GP where they get stuck in traffic jams and have to contend with road rage.
We could also make a shitload of money by making it so they have to go into and out of the congestion charge zone and get charged full rate every time.

If this is the case an F1 team needs to sign me up as I drive in and out of London most days. I know all the tricks and lanes to be in.

The 2002 Indycar footage is scary as that crash could of been fatal for some of the drivers like the onboard shot.

I was going to download the free trial of F1 2019 on the Xbox, wants you to download the full 41GB game just so you can play Australian Grand Prix :fp:

Some of those crashes are properly scary as well :dread:

With the way things are, i'll gladly watch a race at the Hungaroring if it's either that or nothing at all.

I agree with the government. I mean why should F1 be exempt just because Liberty are desperate to race this year

Couldnt all the visiting F1 peeps just put their quarantine address as Silverstone as they will be there for 14 days anyway.
