I thought McLaren's rainbows were to do with the NHS rather than pride though.

I love that in that picture you have everyone going round the corner and one guy looks like he's a bit lost and going the other way.

Like it's some pensioner in a racing car.

Bloody loved it.

I've seen Rush before, and I know Senna is a must watch so that's next on my list to watch (if anyone knows if it's on any streaming platforms that'll be good) but other than that, i've had a look at when the next race is and am ready to watch one live to see if I enjoy that too.

Pretty sure Senna is on Netflix. It's great.

Well hi there.

A few questions then since i've finished Drive to Survive.

Is there going to be a season 3 covering this season?
Ferrari are shite now?
Monza's podium racers - what the hell happened to the big dogs?! Is that a good race to make my first one to watch in full to see how I get on with it or should I wait for Sochi and start with one where I don't know who wins?

Based purely on the documentary, I think my favourite racers were Max, Riccardio, Sainz and Albon which I guess means I like Red Bull the most? Still unsure on how to pick who to cheer for!

Welcome to the club!

Yes, they are already filming for the next series.

Ferrari were cheating with their engine last year and got caught (but with no sanction for some reason) so are completely useless this year.

Monza was a race where everything that could go wrong, went wrong for the big teams. Circuit doesn't suit Red Bull, something was up for Bottas, Hamilton and Mercedes had a mindblank and Ferrari were Ferrari.

It's always interesting watching races back when you can see the different strategies and how they played out, Gasly won the race not because he was quick but because he was lucky with when he pitted.

Oh my goodness, new member in the F1 thread! :toot:

I believe there is going to be third series of Drive to Survive, will probably one out February ish time next year in time for the next season, works quite nicely as a recap and acts as a bit of hype for the new season!

As for Ferrari, they were basically cheating with their power unit for a chunk of 2019 and reached an agreement with the governing body (FIA - Ferrari International Assistance), yet the results of the investigation are to be kept secret. Hopefully they’ll get back up there soonish but with the power unit development being limited to save money it might take them a bit longer but the new set of technical regulations coming into play in 2022 might help them a bit.

Definitely start with Monza, do not (and I repeat, do NOT) watch Sochi as your first F1 race, normally its a very dull race and just a dull track in general, Monza was lacking the big 2 teams (hard to class Ferrari in the same league as Mercedes/Red Bull currently) due to Mercedes making a huge mistake in pitting Hamilton and getting the second most severe penalty you can get on track in a 10 second stop go. Red Bull typically don’t go well round Monza but they have got a couple of wins round there before.

As for who to support? Just go with the drivers you like for now, liking Sainz you will learn to love and loathe Ferrari next year  As for myself I’m quite the Vettel fan, I started watching it in 2009 just as Vettel was really getting into his stride with Red Bull, I don’t really dislike any of the drivers, heck people love to complain about drivers at times for not doing a good enough job (myself included at times) but they still have to be amazing drivers to drive the current cars round tracks with the speeds were currently seeing them achieve.

It's interesting - when it comes to which team/driver to 'support', I love F1 and have watched it close to 30 years but I've never really thought of it that way.

Unlike almost all other sports, I've always viewed F1 as a kind of entity by itself. I support the sport more than any particular team/driver I think.

Ferrari have for the longest time been poison to F1, team orders, trying to secretly contravene the rules and generally working to make F1 a worse product. They'll always be scumbags so don't root for them.

I’ll try to find a rerun of Monza on Sky then and start with that!

I had the F1 channel on in the background earlier while doing some work and the stuff they show during a race on Sky is great for keeping track of the action.

Interesting about Ferrari - as an outsider I just kind of assumed they were they go to guys in F1 because of the brand. Also interesting that they cheated and still couldn’t beat Mercedes!

Is Hamilton considered one of the best ever? His record seems insane.

Hamilton is certainly up there as one of the best, obviously with the different eras and cars being a big factor in the results it’s really hard to judge who is the best of all time.

Hamilton is right up there, possibly the best ever but it's hard to compare. A lot of people like to gooseberry fool on him because of thinly veiled racism unfortunately. If it's just the car, then why is his team mate not right on his tail constantly?

The next race is probably going to be dire (a lot of gooseberry fool races with the odd monza diamond recently) but there's a chance for Hamilton to match Schumacher's all time record of 91 wins, which is worth watching as it may never be beaten.

Hello mate! If looking for F1 Docs, you absolutely must watch 1 - Life on the Limit by Michael Fassbender. Documents the development of safety in F1 over the past 70 years or so.

They have always put themselves above the future of the sport as a whole.
The Ferrari special payment is bloody stupid and they've been underperforming for a while now.

I actually think it might do the sport good to let Ferrari bugger off as they constantly threaten to as I think the sport can survive just fine without them and they could then distribute the cash a bit more fairly.

Hamilton is without a doubt one of the greatest of all time. Nobody can say for sure as it is so difficult to compare eras. In terms of race wins for example, they race a lot more per season than they did even as recently as the 90s.

I was a huge Schumacher fan, but even I have to admit, on pure raw talent, and given he has never really done anything dirty on track, Hamilton for me just shades it. At the moment, he is at his peak, and each season he seems to improve again, so now is a good time to watch him at his best.

He is a bit of a wally off the track though, and I don't mean his BLM stuff which I think is absolutely fine. If you look at Hamilton when he came in back in 2007, he seemed like a nice young kid like Lando Norris does today. Then fast forward to 2020 and he seems quite aloof and stage managed in interviews, or like he is putting on a performance. It just gives me the impression that the money and fame have really changed him.

Compared to Schumacher it's an interesting change. Schumacher seemed to change very little over his career, he was always seen as arrogant when he first started, by the end he was maybe slightly less arrogant at best!

I think the fact Hamilton beat prime Alonso in his rookie season is also a great indicator of how talented he is. In between his championships, he kept picking up a decent number of race wins in underperforming cars also, often having to get very racy from a few rows back on the grid.

Right now, he's arguably the best driver of all time in the best F1 car of all time. I've never been fussed about his personality tbh; F1 drivers in general don't have the most 'likeable' personalities I find, there's usually something about every one of them that would make me roll my eyes occasionally, but I'm okay with that. It's always been the nature of the sport, especially with the frontrunners.

It does seem Lewis gets a disproportionately negative response though in this area, which I think we all know the reason why.

Just sat down to watch Monza!

They was talking about two DRS zones in the build-up. What's that all about?
