Cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. His helmet struck a post attached to the fence.

I probably fall down on the side of saying he'd be alive today with a halo. Bit irrelevant though of course; neither F1 or Indy were anywhere near close to implementing it back then anyway.

Ferrari seem to struggle in high speed corners, so Monaco could well be an equaliser for them.
