Thought Hamilton would have been able to fight that harder.

Mercedes cost him the race.

I wonder why they haven't brought Bottas in for the fastest lap point?

I was confused by this, as it is they last an extra point to Verstappen as he got the fastest lap too.

I don't get that either, every point will count this year.

That was a surprisingly good race. Not sure how much Lewis going over the curb affected things as Max wasn't getting close enough before that. He might just have been saving his tyres a bit though.

Wonder when Mercedes will actually realise they need to bring at least one decent upgrade to this years car, I know they don’t want to but surely they’ve got some upgrades in the pipeline already that they’ve just not committed to actually making?

Ferrari had a nightmare, McLaren had a great race too. Alonso getting back into the swing of things by the look of it, Aston Martin had a solid if very unspectacular race. Bottas was right all along that he needed 2 stops, as did Hamilton by the sounds of it.

Mercedes seem to be all at sea strategically at the moment.

It’d help if they actually listened to their drivers too, both drivers said or implied that it wouldn’t be a one stop race for them at all but seems like the engineers thought they knew better :fp:

Don’t think they’re doing woefully on strategy but rather over the course of a season (since 2014) whatever strategy they’ve used in a race has made relatively little difference except for spells of the 2017 and 2018 season. Now they seem to be the second fastest team they need to get smarter with the strategy, use Bottas as a blocker if he’s in a position to and then hope Hamilton can make the difference where it matters.

This really is starting to turn into a classic season, it's such a refreshing change to have 2 teams battling it out for the title.

Changes coming to Yas Marina to try and improve overtaking chances, I like it that circuits are a little more willing to change (except Monaco!) the layout these days to improve the racing. Just need Spain to remove the awful chicane now.

It's good that Yas Marina are making changes, hopefully they'll get rid of that chicane before the hairpin on to the back straight, as that actually prevents a decent overtaking opportunity as the cars come down the hill.

Well the parts in green are the proposed changes so they’d be getting rid of a couple chicanes for a a hairpin and one more open, sweeping hairpin by the looks of it.

With the chicane in sector 1, they should just use the strip of tarmac which already exists to cut the corner before the hairpin as it will create a slightly longer run down to the corner and a better braking zone.

That said, anything which helps to de-tilke-ify tracks can only a good thing.

Seen this over Twitter today, wonder if we might be seeing some coverage of said mocked up 2022 spec car at this weekends Grand Prix. Dare say some of the 2022 cars won’t actually end up looking like these once the teams have made their interpretation of the new regulations.

Most teams will probably want to put some wheels on. :shifty:

At least it may help stop Mazepin from spinning out.
