lewis was penalised so that should be largely the end of the issue really, of course the weight of the penalty doesnt quite line up with... 3 place grid penalty for example... 10 secs isnt enough for ending someone elses race, the penalty indicates they thought he was in the wrong so why so low.. anyway

also the sprint race just seems pointless

why not go the full touring car and say race 1 and race 2, or you have to have some sort of unique element or gimmick to make the sprint worthwhile. i hate to say it, but a boost button or joker lap or some sort of gooseberry fool?? or else whats the point? id rather they stuck as it is

As far as I know, and we've been told over and over, there is no mechanism to appeal a penalty that is served during a race. If RBR are allowed to appeal it, in race penalties will have to be stopped and all penalties will need some kind of post race hearing. Otherwise, next time a driver gets a time penalty, they should be allowed to appeal.

RBR are being daft here. Only an absolutely insane person would suggest that Hamilton would need a DQ or a race ban for that.

This is why I have so little respect for Red Bull. They whine, stamp their feet and act so petulant. Hamilton got the penalty and served it, then had a huge fight back to win. It sucks for them but its the stewards decision and that's final. If Red Bull appeal and lose maybe they should be docked by the stewards for the amount of disrespect shown here.

I do think in the longer term, getting away from Red Bull was the best thing he could do.

Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz have had a lucky escape too.

They used to sanction teams and drivers for bringing the sport into disrepute. I think they need to go back to doing that. I'm all for drivers and teams being more outspoken, but what RBR have done this week is far too extreme.

It's the hypocrisy of it all that drives me mad, if roles had been reversed Horner would have been banging on endlessly about how they thought the move was fair because Max was alongside.

I know Vettel doesn’t quite seem to have the edge he did back when he won his 4 WDC but you can’t help but think he’s a throughly likeable chap, here is he channeling his inner Partridge (which I imagine he’s seen), well that’s all I could think of anyway when this popped up!

Didn’t you get the memo, Lewis tried to kill Max by pushing him off track :capnscotty: I mean he made the same move on two other drivers but that makes no difference of course.

But you’re spot on, they’d be crying that Max was just going for a move and deserved the space. I’m still surprised how many people are trying to pin this solely on Hamilton rather than a racing incident.

Bloody Ted. I much preferred Tony Jardine doing the pit lane reporting. Haven't seen Tony on TV in ages now, apparently he is contracted to Sky F1 but I've never seen him?

Horner: "Unacceptable" for F1 team bosses to be allowed to lobby stewards

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner thinks it is "unacceptable" that Formula 1 stewards can be lobbied by competitors while they are making decisions.

Horner was left angry at the way Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff was able to speak to the stewards during their deliberations over the crash between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in last weekend’s British Grand Prix.

After Wolff was advised over team radio by F1 race director Michael Masi to go and speak to the stewards, Horner marched down there himself to make sure that his team’s views were not ignored.

But he thinks that teams having direct access to stewards amid such debates should not be allowed.

“I saw Toto, who was lobbying the stewards, and I heard he was going there to do it, so I went to make sure that our view was represented,” explained Horner about why he was spotted at the stewards.

“I don't think it's right that a team principal should be able to go and lobby the stewards. They should be locked away so that they're not influenced.

“For me, it was unacceptable that he had gone up there to lobby the stewards. I wanted to make sure that there was a balanced opinion given, rather than trying to influence pressure on the stewards to make a menial sentence.”

Horner believes it is in F1’s interests for the stewards to do their deliberation in complete isolation, rather than be potentially influenced by outside parties.

“I don't think the stewards should be interfered with,” he said. “They need to be clear headed to be able to make those decisions.

“I went to see the stewards because I'd heard that Toto was up there, presenting a case. You want it to be fair and balanced, and I don't think anybody should be allowed to see the stewards.”

But despite Horner’s views on the matter, F1 race director Michael Masi said he has no problem with the stewards having an open door policy with teams.

"If we have an incident after the race, we invite the teams and the drivers to come up and appear before the stewards,” he said.

“We had the case in Monza last year when Lewis went and spoke to the stewards to understand what happened and have a look at the whole picture. During the suspension, that ability exists, so there's no reason not to."

:fp:

Looks like someone thought his call to the race director was enough, and didn't realise he should talk to the stewards instead.

I really do think it's time for Horner to put a sock in it now, before he digs himself into an even bigger hole.

Anyone start to get the feeling some enormous bets were put on this race by certain people?

I think they're just sore losers. They've seen 5 races of Max domination, and the points earned from it have effectively all been wiped out by this incident so understand why they're not happy, but their reaction to is pathetic.

If Hamilton hadn't hit that brake warming switch on his steering wheel in Baku, he'd be leading the championship now.

Yeah Red Bull are just really sore losers, would actually be funny if someone like Marko had a bet on Max only for him to get a DNF
