Hopefully "well in himself" means it isn't really serious. 6 weeks till the first race, so there's time for him to recover if it's just minor injuries.

A problem F1 has is that every way that can be thought of to mix things up will just be seen as an artificial gimmick.
Even stuff that's in other race series like joker laps or fan boosts.
How about after race 1 of the season the top 6 cars all need to take an extra 5 second stop and go pitstop per race?

Some touring car championships add ballast to the best cars could F1 try that?

Doesn’t BTCC add ballast to the winning car? That could work in F1 (although knowing F1 engineers they’d make use of the ballast for better weight distribution/lower centre of gravity so would have to be told where to put the extra weight) as if one driver won consecutive races they’d get more ballast added and then it’d get reset if they fell too far back?

The weight has to be gained by the driver.
This would mean that if Lewis does keep winning he'd end up as the world's fattest man contender but that could be fun to watch.

Driver makes more sense, accounts for any driver changes that way. Hamilton would struggle to climb the podium by the end of the season if it was sown into his race suit.
