I haven't watched either of the semi-finals, but France weren't amazing against England, and it doesn't sound like they were amazing tonight either. They've done enough, but not blown teams away. They're quite unlikeable, and while Argentina don't exactly endear themselves to people either, I think I'd prefer to see Argentina win. Hoping they'll have enough quality to take their chances and keep France subdued.

I can't wait to see the combined armies of Ronaldoans and Messites lay down their arms and pray to their new god: two time World Cup winner Olivier Giroud...

Tbh, at this stage, i'd like to see Argentina wipe that smug smirk off Mbappe's face.

I'm torn. On one hand, it would be excellent and make me very happy for Alexis Mac Allister to have a World Cup to his name.

On the other, the Messi media love-in has been absolutely sickening for many reasons, the two which I find reprehensible above all others are:

The complete ambivalence toward the rest of the Argentine side, trying to forge a Maradona-esque narrative whereby Messi is dragging the side through the tournament, which is completely false
The total omission of his support for Sportswashing/the shilling for Saudi Arabia

I don't dislike France at all, but I have to admit I will be a sucker for the ultimate romantic crowning glory ending to Messi's career, and I'll be hoping he scores the winning goal for Argentina.

Completely forgot that was a possibility.

As a result I now want France to win as a certain number of Brighton fans would emulate the whole "we won the world cup" that West Ham fans do.

;)

France had their glory in 2018, let someone else have some time in the sun.

I guess it is a fitting ending - an utterly corrupt tournament, awarded and built with blood money and at an unforgivable human cost, won by a man who was happy to walk away from the club who gave him everything, and join a ghoulish petro-state institution, whilst taking payments from their similarly ghoulish competitors.

Messi has long since sold his soul; him lifting the trophy would be the final indictment that FIFA have successfully sold the World Cup's too.

Argentina stole two World Cups already, in 1978 and 1986. They've more than had their time.

Meh, they were generations ago at this point, none of the players in the team were even born then!

Up to naming Messi the exact same could surely be said of Mbappe and Russia 2018, or indeed Mbappe and Qatar 2022, the apparently preferred outcome here?

This, the 1978 one especially.

As far as I know Argentina are also not still ruled by a right wing military dictatorship.

Can't have France winning after the Battle of Arnemuiden in 1338. Never forget :capnscotty:
