I finally got it! The game really punished me for messing about before. Must have gone through quite a few hundred of them. Not really tracking the numbers but been doing it through watching the football on saturday and all the F1 coverage on sunday, then an hour or two this evening. Considering you can get through 2 or 3 minute by running into and then running away from every Charmander spawn, that's probably a lot! Now hopefully can get Bulbasaur in before the weekend and I'll make a start on Gen 8!

Has anyone ever tried the Magikarp swap method when breeding for shinies? I've not really looked into it at all, but it seems like the shiny is sort of predetermined, and people breed and hatch in batches using Magikarp as it's by far the quickest egg to hatch. When they get their shiny, for example the 6th egg in a batch, they then load up the save, and swap the Magikarp in the daycare for the Pokemon they actually want and egg 6 should be shiny. Obviously you need to be very careful where you save so you can go back. I'm going to SOS chain as much as I can in Ultra Moon, but there are some I will have to MM for, and I might try this as I really hate the breeding and hatching.

Congrats Grin! Definitely some dedication was needed to get Charmander to shine! Hopefully Bulbasaur won't be so long to shine!

I've been very tempted to do a Shiny Badge Quest playthrough on Let's Go, where you have to catch a shiny before you battle a Pokémon gym, meaning you need to catch 9 shinies (1 to catch before you head to the league). This also means you'll be doing it before you have a shiny charm too!

I've known people to literally spend 2000+ hours completing their quests on older games (when the odds were 8000/1). Atleast Let's Go even without the Charm is a bit more accessible!

I've never heard of that method and I'm unsure if it works on Gen 8, definitely worth doing some research on though! Especially if it works and you can get the trickier shinies!

That’s some dedication spending 2000 plus hours just catching Shiny Pokémon, I love the series but not quite that much! I think I only ever ran into one on Let’s Go, a Metapod the first time in Viridian Forest.

Haha I don't have the time or patience to do it on an older game either!

I think I will plan to have a go at a SBQ on Let's Go though, the odds should be much better!

I watched a video recently where a guy played through Soul Silver using just shinies. So he just caught the 6 for his team, but I think it took 60 hours and about 17,000 resets, which actually seems like he probably beat the odds for most of them. I know at one point he was going for a Voltorb and totally missed it as he was just in that rhythm of resetting, so I guess he actually saw 7 shinies. Soft resetting is definitely not for me.

I started to look at the Dynamax Adventures a bit more. So there's not really too many Shinies I actually like that much. Aricuno, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Xerneas, Yvetal and Zygarde are really the only ones I'd be that bothered about. I was probably going to pick up Shield at some point anyway, but am I right in thinking I'd also need a separate expansion pass rather than the DLC being able to be used for either game?

Yea that sounds like he got quite lucky to be fair!

Yea that's right, Sword and Shield have separate DLC, meaning if you had both games and wanted to do Dyna Adventures, you'd need to buy both versions!

If anyone gets stuck looking for any of the Legendary Dynamax Adventure Pokémon I have got a full set from both Sword and Shield that I can transfer back into the respective game and get a route for. I know it took long enough getting the Shield exclusive ones as while they’ve not said I get the feeling that Sword sold quite a bit better than Shield.

Just start chaining one of the more common Pokémon and that should start to force the rarer ones to spawn.

That's awesome thanks man! I can't remember which are exclusive now! Although I would like to get a route for Palkia so I can focus my hunt on it!

They're pretty rare! Grin recently got a shiny Squirtle from Let's Go, they might have some tips to help!

Busy this evening but I’ll get a Palkia route loaded up on Shield (think it’s exclusive to Shield without looking) tomorrow afternoon/evening and then can share it if you need it?

Squirtle was the worst to get the initial chain of 11 for. Charmander spawns in Rock Tunnel and you can use the ladders to sort of quickly generate spawns. Bulbasaur is in Veridian Forest which has a billion Pokemon on screen at once. Squirtle is just a little bastard until you get to a combo of 11.

Would it be possible to join if I have Sword and no DLC?

I think you'd need the DLC to do the Max Raid Cave thing.

Doom might know.

Are you going to stream it on Twitch? I've not even started Gen 8 yet so no way I'd be able to rush through to that point in a couple of hours but I'd definitely watch a stream.
