Not really tracking the numbers but been doing it through watching the football on saturday and all the F1 coverage on sunday, then an hour or two this evening. Considering you can get through 2 or 3 minute by running into and then running away from every Charmander spawn, that's probably a lot! Now hopefully can get Bulbasaur in before the weekend and I'll make a start on Gen 8!
Has anyone ever tried the Magikarp swap method when breeding for shinies? I've not really looked into it at all, but it seems like the shiny is sort of predetermined, and people breed and hatch in batches using Magikarp as it's by far the quickest egg to hatch. When they get their shiny, for example the 6th egg in a batch, they then load up the save, and swap the Magikarp in the daycare for the Pokemon they actually want and egg 6 should be shiny. Obviously you need to be very careful where you save so you can go back. I'm going to SOS chain as much as I can in Ultra Moon, but there are some I will have to MM for, and I might try this as I really hate the breeding and hatching.
Congrats Grin! Definitely some dedication was needed to get Charmander to shine! Hopefully Bulbasaur won't be so long to shine!
I've been very tempted to do a Shiny Badge Quest playthrough on Let's Go, where you have to catch a shiny before you battle a Pokémon gym, meaning you need to catch 9 shinies (1 to catch before you head to the league). This also means you'll be doing it before you have a shiny charm too!
I've known people to literally spend 2000+ hours completing their quests on older games (when the odds were 8000/1). Atleast Let's Go even without the Charm is a bit more accessible!
I've never heard of that method and I'm unsure if it works on Gen 8, definitely worth doing some research on though! Especially if it works and you can get the trickier shinies!
