Regarding my own personal shiny history:

I've had a Red Gyarados, rather unsurprisingly, several times, as I've played through Silver at least twice, Crystal, and HeartGold. I also obtained one of the event Max Raid shiny Magikarp on Sword last year, and evolved it.

I don't recall any other prior shiny encounters so I doubt I've had any, so the first organic shiny encounter I've had was also on HeartGold. I found a shiny Tangela at Mt Silver. The subsequent green Tangrowth became a useful party roster member for using HMs and helping me catch other Pokemon using Stun Spore. Good ol' Greenpasta.

And then finally, this happened:

I've always felt really sorry for anyone who encountered a genuine random shiny Magikarp in those games, no one would ever believe them! :slol:

That's awesome finding a shiny Tangela! I've never liked Tangrowth until recently since playing New Snap, it's really grown on me now, love it's personality! :wub:

I completed a runthrough of Sword using basically the Pokemon I liked best that I found along the way - as Gen 8 was my first since Gen 4 there were lots that were new to me! After I beat the game I decided to make a more viable competitive team with six new 'mon, so started hatching eggs for some of those I wanted to use where my caught 'mon had poor stats. Think it was my fifth or sixth Jango-o egg which hatched shiny :wub:

Oh nice that's incredible luck! I tried MM to get a shiny Alolan Vulpix in Shield. I have up after 850 eggs lol I couldn't bare the torture any more! I do want to get a shiny through that method though, just to say I done it!

And got the shiny bulbasaur! Good timing as the Switch update has almost caught me out a few times coming out of sleep mode as it's already got update selected and I think one press of A would have closed my game and killed my combo.

Didn’t feel long at all compare to the other two. I did it without a lure as there were just too many pokemon on screen. I’d want to run to the bulbasaur and wouldn’t be able to get to it without hitting 2-3 Pokemon on the way :lol:

Shall be diving into Gen 8 now so I can hopefully jump into any future Dynamax stuff with you guys.

Didn’t feel long at all compare to the other two. I did it without a lure as there were just too many pokemon on screen. I’d want to run to the bulbasaur and wouldn’t be able to get to it without hitting 2-3 Pokemon on the way

I haven't ever been on a shiny hunt before, I've only really stumbled on to a couple of them myself.

Red gyarados like everyone else
Shiny tangela - this one was quite interesting. I found it at Mt silver and it was in the grass but escaped. I managed to run into it again 2 more times (I'd managed to do damage to it and it was still showing the damage on its HP bar) before catching it. I had no idea you could run into the exact same mon again!
Shiny Nidorino - caught this in the safari zone in crystal and had no idea it was Shiny till I looked at it in the PC. I evolved it into a lovely pink nidoking
Shiny whismur - this was the first whismur I had encountered so I had no idea it was Shiny till I saw the next few in the cave!

I did have a Shiny spinda gifted to me in black 2 as it's my favourite pokemon (also the only pokemon with 401 different Shiny variations due to every pattern having a Shiny version!). Gutted it was one of the pokemon that doesn't appear in sword and shield. I'd love to see a dynamax one!

That's crazy though you managed to run into that shiny Tangela multiple times, I didn't even think that was a thing! Maybe if it runs you have a short window in which to encounter it again? Maybe someone else can clarify! Either that or you're the worlds luckiest person!

Oh god the Spindas! I watched a video on someone crunching the numbers, and they worked out getting two identical pattern shiny Spindas is the rarest in all of Pokémon!

It was something like 1 in 14 million or something crazy like that! Makes me wonder... Has anyone ever achieved it by accident and hasn't realised how rare it is?!

Dynamax Adventures unlocked!

Still working on that Shiny Charm, so I'm not really using them to hunt myself just yet, but I'm ready to join you guys next time you give them a bash.

Apart from Grooky and Jirachi them pokémon here are my shinies. Some are from before and others from GO.

The 2 Gyarados are from Crystal and Heart Gold. The Clamperl are from 'accidentally' SOS shiny hunting, where I was looking for Gorbyss and Huntail and did not even realise this was a shiny method. Heliolisk and Medicham are Ultra Wormhole Shinies, and everything from Bulbasaur to Arcanine is from Let's Go. The Zubat is my one full odds shiny, although I dread to think if there were I didn't even notice when playing the earlier gens, before they made it so obvious.

Feels like I've not really started to hunt yet. Spent ages getting my shiny charm in Ultra Moon and putting together a team of Pokemon good for SOS chaining (so a variety that can false swipe, including ones that can hit ghost types with it, a trevenant that can give the enemy pokemon leppa berries so they never run out of PP and kill themselves by struggling, plus things like Sylveons with the Cutie Charm ability to help attract the right gender for hunting something like Salandits), then getting the Shiny Charm in Let's Go, and now working on it Sword and Shield. Soon though I'll have 3 games that are all set up for Shiny Hunting!

Thinking about it, I should have some Shiny Magikarp from Shield.

Is shiny chaining a thing in other games then? I just assumed the chain thing was only in Let's Go?
