Oh, wait. Think my iPhone updating is borked. Apparently it can't be verified :? I can't even remember downloading iOS5.0.1, so has anyone got a link to an official Apple download?

Can't even restore it. Winner.

Anyone know the best way of backing up all my iphone 4 messages onto the computer? I want to see all my old messages from people without scrolling through literally hundreds and maybe thousands on my iphone... and everything I've tried isn't working... I have icloud but can't see my SMS's being backed up onto there?

Could anyone recommend a good external battery and case for an iPhone 3G?

There seems to be a lot of choice and I don't know who are reputable accessory makers

I've heard good things of the Dexim super juice battery.

Good name, too.

The mrs uses a MiLi Power case for her iPhone 4 which has been great. Pretty sure you can get them for a 3G/3GS.

strawberry floating hell, why is the old Universal Dock not compatible with the 4? How has the hardware changed so much that the Universal dock and seemingly every sodding "Made for iPhone/iPod" speaker dock doesn't work with it?

For some stupid reason the Altec InMotion speakers I got for christmas don't work with it, so I was thinking I could get some use out of my utterly pointless Universal Dock I bought a few years back, buy some basic speakers, link the two together and use it like that, but the universal dock doesn't work with the iPhone 4 either.

It's the same OS as the sodding Touch and old iPhone, so what the bloody hell is the problem? I bet there isn't one, and it's just typical Apple "You have to buy the new one which just happens to be twice as much as the one you bought to begin with" nonsense.

EDIT: Just in case it does turn out to be something to do with the custom firmware, I'm upgrading to 5.0.1 as we speak. If it still doesn't work I might take it to the Apple store when I'm back at Uni and see if it's meant to be incompatible. If it's not, I'm getting it exchanged.

Can't say I've ever had that issue.

That just makes it even more frustrating. I've had this phone for almost two years and for the entire time I've been searching for a dock that it actually works with. If it turns out to have been strawberry floated from the start, I will go literally mental.

:(

EDIT: And to make matters worse, MakeMKV's beta seems to have run out, so now I have no way of ripping blu-rays to my Mac at the moment! This is the worst New Year's Eve ever.

And even with a fresh download of 5.0.1, it's still giving me the "YOUR IPHONE ISN'T ELIGIBLE FOR THE REQUESTED BUILD" error.

Words cannot express how this makes me feel right now.

strawberry float yeah 8-)

Still doesn't work in the Universal Dock :|

now let's try the speakers...

EDIT: Doesn't work in the speakers. Great. Now I've gotta wander up to the Apple store at some point, beat my way past all the timewasters in there and try and talk to someone I don't find insufferable.

Bough one of the Phillips ring airplay speakers a few weeks back. Been using it a lot whilst I've been off over xmas and have to say it's the best thing I've bought to g with my iphone/pad.

Love being able to just pick a song on my phone, hit the airplay button and have it come out the speaker. The sound quality is great too for what's a pretty small speaker but the donut type shape and bass tube inside it really kicks out a decent sound.

:(

Got a couple of trial versions of programmes that work... But I don't want to pay money just to see my old messages on a computer screen. There must be a better way...

Any recommendations for a TVguide app which is searchable? I've been using the TVGuide.co.uk app but it's a pretty basic listings app and ideally I want something I can search for 'movies' for example and for results to come up? Anything like this out there at all?

Just a heads up - Snapseed is free at the moment. It's basically a photo editing tool but is absolutely brilliant effects and styles you can add to your photos. It was £1.99 at on point so go get it

Yeah got one of those too, use it more for video. Wanted the speaker as its nice and self contained so just sits on the windowsill and can just zap music across to it when want to. Works with any audio from phone/iPad too so great for Internet radio or stuff like last fm etc..

Got round to setting up iTunes match too. Like it a lot. Backed up all my music to an external hdd and just have it stream in iTunes now and download the albums I want to my phone as I want them. Awesome stuff.
