Apparently the ending was written right at the start of the show and the writers are really proud of this. The problem is that it was written when the show was about the island being purgatory before everyone guessed what the show was about and they changed it all.

The annoying thing is that there's no relation to that ending and the style of the show.

I mean why the strawberry float was sayiid back with Shannon when he spent the last few seasons mourning the death of his Iraqi wife? :fp:

I remember talking to someone I work with when I just started Season 1 and I guessed that was what had happened. Then the whole Jacob/his brother thing started and I really had no idea from then on. I thought it was about two god like people essentially having a massive game of Chess. Or when the time travel stuff started I thought it was Locke had set everything in to a cycle to keep everyone on the island so he never had to leave. There was a few things I was hoping would be answered like the whole emphasis on Walt being special early on then nothing since and Hurley/Libby knowing eachother. But the ending has confused me a little to be honest.I'm fine with accepting the whole side-flashes thing was them being dead, Desmond trying to get them to let go of what they wanted to achieve in their life and accept it or something like that, but when the heck did they all die? The side flashes started at Season 5 so did The Incident lead to everyone dying then? I assume not since you know, there was a Season 6 and Jacob and Locke and all that other gooseberry fool happened. But Hugo for example, last we see of him if I remember right is him asking Ben to stay with him and be his number 2 on the island, yet he's still in this church at the end with the rest of the dead dudes.

Everyone is dead in the side-flashes, but it's not because they all died at the same time or in the same time-frame. They all died at various points, some in the past, some many years after Jack did. Pretty sure Jack's dad explains that where they are isn't a "when" but they're separate from time. It's everyone's shared purgatory and at the end they all moved on

Ah yeah, I suppose that makes more sense now.

Although there was quite a bit left unanswered, I am happy with that ending in all honesty.

Yeah, the mysteries were unanswered but all the characters got closure, which is what I liked most about it.

I was listening to the Mamas and the Papas yesterday and "Make Your Own Kind of Music" came on. Reminded me of that awesome start to season 2 when it opened with Desmond.

Love that bit, where you think it's a flashback and then the dynamite goes off

For me, it was probably the best scene in the entire show. Certainly, the best opener anyway (though Season 3's wasn't bad, even if it was a bit of a copycat).

After the suspense of the Season 1 finale, it was the perfect opening. It was probably made better by the fact that Channel 4 showed Season 1 so far behind the States, that it finally felt like we were getting somewhere with Season 2.

It's probably the best season. I always get quite tempted to watch 1-3 (maybe 4 at a stretch), but then I am put off by how unsatisfying the final seasons were.

I'm watching Lost at the moment with my daughters. They love it. We're near the end of the final season now, after watching an episode or two most nights. There was a definite drop in quality on that final season. The flash-sideways became much better than what was going on on the island (lots of traveling from place to place).

I really liked the season 5 episodes where Sawyer and co made a life for themselves in 70's Darmaville.

I love season 5.

Damn I miss Lost. Definitely going to watch from the beginning again soon as my girlfriend has never seen it.

Thanks for posting that, it was really interesting. Nice to see how much of the most memorable stuff- Locke being a wheelchair, the Swan station was down to Lindelof. The hate he gets is ridiculous.

It's really not. The guy's an idea factory no doubt, but he cannot finish what he starts. Lost, Prometheus, even the last Star Trek film, all have fantastic setups and piss poor conclusions. You know a project's in real trouble if he's ever brought in to over see the ending (coughworldwarzcough).

That was an interesting piece though. Nice to hear someone finally admit the writers outright lied about the "everything explainable" thing.

That's what makes it so strange to read that he fought with Abrams not to include the hatch until they knew what was in it. It's like he was once this idealistic guy who believed in pay off until the Lost backlash broke him. I agree with Mori though, the hate he gets is insane - the guy just needs a writing partner to rein him in.

I hope Tomorrowland can prove people wrong, which I hope it will as Brad Bird wrote the script and created story with Lindelof.

As I described before, there was definitely a sort of "operational theory" for what the island would be -- it was liked by some and loathed by others -- and since Damon and Carlton chose not to say it out loud in the series finale, I won't presume to do it for them. Suffice it to say there was a concrete reason that we openly discussed on several occasions about why the island had an exotic source of power in its core that was able to wreak such miracles as time travel, the motion of the island, and somehow connect with selected people on a psychic level.

Not sure they made the right call there.

Rewatch of Lost is on to season three.

The whiplash from an episode as good and as interesting as 'Flashes Before Your Eyes' to 'Stranger in a Strange Land' is quite something.

The show really ended up nosediving once the Others became more prominent.

Loved Lost, my favourite season was probably 3.

Ben Linus was one of TV's greatest ever characters, i have an autograph from Michael Emerson in my collection.
