While I would say that the score is a bit light, I can't honestly argue with the comments.

it’s a big gamble for those that know what they like and what they know they like.

Is that a genuine quote from the mag?

scratching your head and figuring out how the hell you grab that missing jigsaw piece just out of reach.

Actually amazing. I didn't like Braid as much as most people did but how exactly is "This puzzle game is too puzzling!" a valid criticism?

KKLEIN wrote:Apparently this is their review. I presume it's just a small box out.

For a game where you can rewind time, it’s ironic that you’ll spend a lot of time wasting it, scratching your head and figuring out how the hell you grab that missing jigsaw piece just out of reach. Later levels turn into a brain scrambling mess and the game itself it short – so it’s just about doable without inducing break-anything-in-anger frustration. Couple this with a higher than average price point and it’s a big gamble for those that know what they like and what they know they like. Braid isn’t for everyone.

Can he/she please be fired?

Name and shame. Who's the reviewer?

They could have justified the 5 a bit better, they obviously didn't like it but the write up should have been a bit better. Braid isn't for everyone but those critisms are like those strawberry milk gets.

Yeah, it essentially describes the time spent working out the puzzles as wasted.

Like some others, I'm not deeply in love with Braid, but that's a strawberry floating horrendous review.

No idea. Doesn't Rik buy the magazine? We'll have to wait for him.

Well I decided to go & buy it (there goes 6 quid, just for you people) & Braid actually got a 9, & not a 5. Here’s the full review:

There are some people out there who will love Braid. The paintbrush art style, the charming music, the lack of menus and abstract thinking required to solve the puzzles all add up to a unique experience. Braid is a seemingly simple platformer with deceptively tough levels, as the time-twisting gimmick introduced to each level twists each puzzle into a mystery. For a game where you can rewind time, it’s ironic that you’ll spend a lot of time wasting it, scratching your head and figuring out how the hell you grab that missing jigsaw piece just out of reach. That said, there are some people out there who will hate Braid. Later levels turn into a brain scrambling mess and the game itself is short – so it’s just about doable without inducing break-anything-in-anger frustration. Couple this with a higher-than-average price point and it’s a big gamble for those that know what they like & like what they know. Braid isn’t for everyone but for those that love it, this will be a special experience, especially when they see the ending…

THE SCORE

Unique, charming, frustrating, innovative.

9/10

When it comes to helping you make up your mind on whether to purchase it or not, it’s an absolutely useless piece, it really is. They’ve only allocated it a paltry half a page. The reviewer's name is absent, for some reason. All the other scores are present & correct.

Elsewhere in the magazine this month…

6 page feature on the Batman game
9 page feature called ‘Xbox Live Arcade Exposed’ looking at Arcade games & how they get onto the service & all the problems that entails. Also includes a look at the ’20 XBLA Games you Must Play!’
OXM Speaks To...2K Boston

Previews

Gears of War 2
Race Pro
Saints Row 2 (right next to a Saints Row 2 advert)
Darksiders Wrath of War
Battle Fantasia
Midnight Club LA
The Godfather 2

What’s strangely missing is an on sale date for the next issue. Awesome sales tactics, there.
