Am I being overly sensitive or is this game's portrayal of alcohol abuse really abhorrent?
I've just completed part of a quest in which I literally killed a man via alcohol poisoning and there was zero consequence. Even the way he just suddenly fell to the floor dead was done in a way as to be comedic.
And then you have Nyoka, a companion struggling with alcoholism, which is not once taken seriously by the game. Upon entering your ship, ADA will constantly make jokes like "oh, guess who's drunk again" and it's done in a way that we're supposed to laugh and look down on the character. The first time this happened, I headed straight for Nyoka's cabin expecting to be able to try and help her through her problem but instead I was greeted by SAM, standing over her making jokes. Nyoka lying upside down, half on the floor and half on her bed, again being played just for jokes.
It makes me really uncomfortable.
Like Taf, Disco Elysium has just ruined this game for me. It's okay but I was genuinely shocked to see it's only just over a year old as it feels like it's from eight years ago.

I haven't seen either of those things, but yeah, that sounds pretty tactless.
It makes me think of Inigo, the Khajit follower mod in Skyrim. I usually quite enjoy his little witticisms, but every time you kill a dragon, he makes a quip about you being a junkie for dragon souls. Funny the first time, uncomfortable the 37th.
Love the artwork that supports this game, but i really did not care for the game itself when i played it back at launch. I'm glad it exists though, and it clearly has a very happy audience.

I kept hearing how New Vegas was better than Fallout 3, so I went back to replay it. Then I heard how good this was, so I bought it in a sale. On both counts I failed to see what others saw. (Which isn't all bad as sometimes I wonder if I'm actually enjoying a lauded game for the game itself, or whether because I know it's been well received. And so games which cause my opinion to diverge from the mainstream are welcome reminders I still have a mind of my own )

I honestly can't pick between them. The writing is much better in New Vegas, but Fallout 3 feels a lot more open than NV does.
Since the 60fps upgrade and the fact it has HDR now thanks to the Series X I've delved back in and I'm enjoying myself quite abit. I'm currently all about helping Parvati host Junlei for a dinner date but I need to get her a dress/clothes in Byzantium which is on Terra 2 but not opened to me yet, I presume the main quest will do so.
I think I'm up to that bit too. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and I can't make it to the items without getting killed and having to take a long walk again
I can't remember if I was on the highest difficulty or not but I struggled with the challenge until I really started to take advantage of the slow-mo power and actually using and upgrading my teams combat abilities more.
Dont think I said I played adn finish this recently, very nice game although I dont know if it is just me but I found the difficulty to be a bit all over the place in that some area you chug aloing quite happily and then there will be something that is suddenly way more difficult for apparent reason which was annoying as hell, but other that it was good. I've not gotten the DLCs yet but I may do at some point after a bit of a break to play something else.
Difficulty was a bit wonky from what I recall as well, partly I put that down to my specialising in tactics that favoured going against human enemies so I tended to get strawberry floated over when robots came along.
I still need to tackle the DLC, it's been on my to do list for quite a while now
I found the difficulty to be just like any Fallout or Elder Scrolls - somewhat balanced at the start but then quickly becomes trivial as your character outpaces the rest of the game. Especially my second playthrough where I min-maxed for combat only as I just killed everyone, I'd just open fire immediately in every settlement and clear every one of them. I didn't play on hardcore (I only tried it briefly), but that's more because the companion AI has a real tendency to kill itself.
