So unless Obsidian are going to update those things I'm hoping the mod-scene for this takes off a little as it's the kind of stuff they'll fix.

I haven't played it yet but watched a video which said you can go to the menus to make the helmets invisible.

I'll be checking that out next time I'm playing.

It's not like I spent any time at all looking for it or anything. I didn't see anything on the equipment screen, which is where I would assume something like "make armour invisible" would be.

Started this today.

It’s fantastic. I clicked with the game straightaway.

Being a cocky space pirate. With an outrageous moustache as well.

To be fair I knew about this too at just a cursory glance of the options.

I always check the options before I start a game. Loving it so far. Apparently MS acquired Obsidian mainly due to an unannounced new game but they're going to struggle to beat this one.

I love all of the companions, Parvati being the standout, but gooseberry fool Felix's special move makes me laugh every strawberry floating time. Seeing him launch a flying kick at a Mantiqueen screaming "Look out jackass!" will never get old.

Absolutely on both counts. Parvati is wonderful, and Felix drop kicking on command is great. Parvati is great though to the point where I don't want to take her out on any remotely shady missions - she seems too pure for that. Ellie is much more of my piratey persuasion.

I was ignoring the companion commands until last night so only just started using them. They recharge crazy fast, maybe on account of having high inspiration, which makes them feel a little cheap and repetitive - so I'm using them a little sparingly.

I wish there was a behaviour setting for "attack aggressively, but stay next to me". When I'm sniping companions seem overly keen to immediately charge towards the enemy.

Finished up most of what I think I can get up to on the Groundbreaker now so I'm heading back out into the wild. Parvati's crush on the Chief was cute, although I was a bit worried she was going to abandon my crew to work with her instead!

Recruited two new people on to my crew which brings me up to four now, am I right in thinking you can only have two with you at any one time?

Enjoyed my time on the Groundbreaker - it was much more slow paced with a focus on more social/tech skills than combat, which made a nice change. I do still find it slightly disappointing that dialog routes around problems (lie/persuade/intimidate etc.) in these kinds of games are basically just skill check "press button to win" scenarios. Actually going through a process of persuading a character through conversation in something akin to the "dialog battles" from Deus Ex HR/MD is much more satisfying, although hugely more difficult to implement successfully.

I never really feel like I earn a win in those situations compared to an approach like sneaking or combat. Adding points to combat is helpful but I as the player still need to use those skills effectively to win, I have to be good at shooting/melee as an actual player of the game etc. but that doesn't hold for the social side of things. It's a minor complaint really, and I never expected it to be any different here, but it just irks me a bit that developers aren't trying to push this side of these games to be something deeper and more rewarding.

Picked up a bunch of leads for some new quests so probably going to head to Monarch next! :toot:

Me too! I left her behind completly on Monarch for that reason. Also, it felt weird using her to mow down countless Marauders in the first mission only for her to later ask "We're not gonna hurt nobody are we?"

I've specced specifically for them, with a chance to recharge instantly after every kill, crit and use of the other companion's ability. I'm basically pressing left dpad right dpad left dpad right dpad during combat and watching them go crazy. Still never gets old.

I haven't even used companion commands yet, really need to dig into that side of things more. Also I hadn't realised about the option to remove armour on companions, will definitely be setting that now!

Cranked the difficulty up to hard to make things more of a challenge as well, bring it on!

Good guide to .ini tweaking here

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/1 ... ds-better/

My UI is now gloriously free from clutter and the weird, blurry DoF effect has gone. Unfortunately, for some reason the dialogue options now display from the very beginning of conversations meaning they often spoil what is being said. Which is annoying. It's also flicked some setting so headwear doesn't appear on companions which is good (I couldn't figure out how to remove head armour from them before) and bad (Parvati with goggles was bae)

Ooh, may have a look at that later as there are a few tweaks I would like to make to the UI if possible.

Interesting that the RPS article talks about wanting to tweak mouse settings (acceleration/smoothing etc.) because I was very surprised that this is one of the first games in a while where I've been perfectly happy with the mouse response right out of the box.

I went with the people from the botanical gardens, but Jeffyard went with the other people and he told me he convinced the guy running the Cannery to leave and let the old woman from the Gardens take over from him. Which I think may have been the better choice. Oh well.

Making Adelaide mayoris probably the best choice but she's not a great person either what with the borderline cannibal thing.

Yeah she seems to express very unsatisfactory responses when pressed on that matter as well!

Pretty sure the dialog setting includes one that displays choices at the start of a convo so just check the settings in game and switch it back to the way it was.

I'm expecting an end credit montage listing how bad all my choices have been.

I avoided finding out about the cannibalism, so that's a thing. Even not knowing that I did try to kill Adelaide after diverting power there, because I was not impressed with her saying she wouldn't take everyone in, but shooting her immediately made the whole place hostile so I had to reload and not do that :(

Now I can stealth better I might try going back and setting things right...

She can only grow the food by using ground-up marauder corpses as fertiliser. When they run out of marauders she plans to use the town graveyard.
