I should, apparently.

But yeah, I'm seeing the same opinion a lot on Twitter. The Outer Worlds is a good throwback feeling game but DE emphasises how outdated some of its systems feel, especially dialogue and levelling.

Forgot to say before.

How cool is the level up music? And the main theme in general.

Yeah the level up "chime" is glorious. :toot:

Had another great session on this last night, mostly tooling around Roseway. I'm still going with "strawberry float the corporations" as my default position on everything, feels good sticking it to "the man"

They have been doing a pretty solid job of mixing a bit of a grey area into things though, making it clear that generally it's just people you are dealing with, even if they may represent or be aligned with the corporations in some way, ultimately your actions tend to hurt individuals more than they do anything to target the bigger players.

Completed the main story. Made the mistake of saving in the last room, now I'm stuck there because I can't hack the door open.

Spent most of last night roaming Monarch and having a great time clearing out some of the "giant" creatures around there. A nice challenge compared to some of what has come before.

Decided to use the intel from Roseway for my own benefit so Gladys would only sell me the location of the safer landing pad on Monarch (I'm assuming she lets you have it for free if you hand over the research etc. to her?) But she wanted 10,000 bits for it so I thoguht screw that and decided to fight my way across Monarch without it!

Still just having a great time with this. It doesn't really excel at anything in particular, but everything it offers it does at least a good if not great job with, and the things that it does offer are pretty much all the kinds of things I like in my games so it's making me very happy. :toot:

No, actually. You just get rewarded with a lot of bits for each type of secret you sell her, which can cover the 10000 cost. I sold her all three secrets (but I had managed to double the yield of the musk, so managed to both hand over half on Roseway and sell the other half to Gladys - playing both sides B) ). There was also an option to lie about a fourth secret but I didn't take it and it disappeared after the third secret was sold.

Ah cool.

I sold her the weapon plans because I didn't trust the guy who wanted them on Terra-2, I kept the diet toothpaste research because that gooseberry fool had serious side effects which the corps didn't really seem to care about so I didn't want it getting out there, and the musk I just let the scientist keep because he sounded like a free spirit and I wanted to encourage that!

Did you get the gun off the guy who wanted the weapon schematics? If you speak to him again there is a speech check (I think) to buy it off him as he can't use it anymore - it's a (seemingly?) unique pistol that I gave to Ellie. I've been wondering if you help him instead whether you'd get the upgraded version form the schematics.

I enjoyed all of the choices on Roseway - I deliberately killed all of the creatures as I didn't want them to continue their experiments, and I also helped the outlaw leader to escape (although I demanded the research from her and killed all the nameless mooks). I then lied to the scientist guy to tell him the research was stolen so I could keep it to sell to Gladys, but without him thinking I stole it. I basically super hard went in on manipulating everyone to get my way while still appearing helpful

Yeah I took the gun from the scientist, without the schematics he couldn't do anything with it anyway! I did the same with the outlaw leader - let her go but took the research, although I didn't kill all of her crew - just the ones who got in my way before I got her to agree to a ceasefire.

Gladys seems well dodge so I wasn't too keen on letting her have everything from Roseway. And I sure wasn't going to give her 10 grand for the Stellar Bay key, I'll make my own way thank you very much!

I didn't find the option for a ceasfire, I only killed all the outlaws because they were all shooting me on sight (apart from the lady outside, she was great). Wish I could have negotiated that.

Gladys is obviously dodge but of all the factions I've met so far, I easily best align with the Groundbreakers. True independence from corporate control without religious zeal.

How did everyone handle Dr Chartrand in the Sublight quest line? I ended up just killing her because there was no option to just destroy the research. Despite all the problems in Halcyon, you can't really save humans by turning them into something else. I appreciate how desperate she was to find a solution to the food shortages but she kind of lost sight of the goal.

Don't think I've got that far yet. I haven't really dealt with Sublight yet beyond going and introducing myself to their leader.

Finally battled my way to Stellar Bay last night - Monarch is a much larger location than any either Emerald Vale or Roseway! Picked up a few Mk. 2 and "Ultra" weapons for my troubles as well which have really upgraded my combat capability - I was avoiding quite a few fights before, partly because I enjoy stealth and social approaches generally, but it's nice now to have a bit more firepower for when I need it!

Hmm probably not, I don't know if you got the option to get a similar outcome after diverting power the deserters but if you re-supply the town there's an outcome in which you can get the guy running edge water to leave, have the deserters to return to the town, cure the plague, start farming food, everyone's back together and living conditions are much improved. Definitely the optimum ending I would of thought, but like I say, maybe something similar was possible after re-routing to the deserters.

Still under control of Spacer's Choice though?

If I have to sacrifice lives to liberate the system from corporate control, then that is what I will do :capnscotty:

Amazingly 15 hours later this story arch has resurfaced on my game, Defo won’t in the same way on yours, so I can now answer this, They took over from Spacers choice and ran it independently

I finished this last night! I really enjoyed it all the way through and I'm going to jump straight back in with some different playthroughs. My big choices (at least the ones that were obvious):

- Diverted power to the deserters
- Killed Graham to install Zora as Iconoclast leader, negotiated peace between them and MSI
- Sided with Phineas and skipped the Hope

My ending told me:

I was basically installed as leader of the colony, with Rockwell and Clarke under my control. The food crisis was averted by colonists revived from the Hope by Phineas. The board collapsed under infighting. MSI and the Iconoclasts together grew large in power and influence. The Botanical Gardens grew into a successful town, although most from Edgewater died (thankfully so did Abigail). The Groundbreaker prospered as an independent station (and Parvati moved in  ). The future of Sublight was uncertain after the death of Lilya.

I wish there had been a better option for Edgewater, it's the only resolution I regret (although maybe I should have killed Rockwell too, but I do blame the game for not giving me much warning there on what choice I was making). I wonder if the "best" for Edgewater would actually be leaving Spacer's Choice in control, knowing they will collapse along with the Board at the end of the game...

Meep wrote:How did everyone handle Dr Chartrand in the Sublight quest line?

I let her live. While the game itself didn't sell me very well on the food crisis, she appeared sincere (and evidently later on it becomes clear the crisis is real) and Lilya has gone full conspiracy nut over the unsubstantiated ET stuff. Chartrand wasn't a bad person, they'd only killed one person at least and a dozen at most and those sacrifices appeared mostly consented to. It seemed better to let her continue her work than to murder her without good reason.

The impression I got was that the "changed humanity" they were aiming for would be largely unnoticeable - some internal genetic alteration where superficially humans would still look the same. That didn't sound bad.

Nice job OR, out of interest what was your playtime?

I've put about 30 hours into this now but feel like there is still a long way to go yet, there are many locations that I've still not even visited yet! I imagine they will vary in size so it's hard to gauge just how much more content there is.

I'm still on Monarch at the moment, lots of different quest lines on the go and still having a great time. Some of the gunplay in this obviously falls a bit short of dedicated FPS games but sniping a Marauder from long distance and watching their head pop off as they crumple to the floor will never stop being hugely satisfying for me!
